Stay American, if you want to feel posh grab a new gen CTS-V. What a wicked ride. And I guess you could still call it American muscle and feel proud support your own economy.

    thumbs up!

Yeah, I'm not saying the M5 isn't an excelent performance vehicle, just don't expect to pass it on to your son(or daughter). BMWs are really made for people who have enough money to not worry about it. This may be you. It's certainly not me.

I do all my own work on my vehicles, which is the only reason I can afford to drive what I do. I have worked on my own motorcycles and cars since I was 14.
I am currently finishing up a major overhaul of my '91 850i, including an engine-out top end, and all gaskets overhaul. This was the biggest PITA I have ever undertaken. While some of the engineering is top-notch, some of it looks like it was done by morons.

For example, the 90s V8s are famous for dropping oil pump bolts! In fact my '95 4.0L 540i had six of them rolling around in the oil pan!!

And look up the problems with the E46 M3s ripping out the rear suspension sub frame, and the TSB which calls for reducing max RPM so that the valves don't get eaten, or the V8 Nikasil engine block failures. I could go on, but I don't want to bore people.

I'm not saying that BMW is the only mfg.r to have some problems, but for a brand that has such a "reputation" for quality and engineering, and that just costs so freaking much, they have had some spectacular failures.

So, if you really want the M5 buy and enjoy it. You may luck out and get one that gives you no trouble whatsoever. Maybe. But I bet at some point you'll miss your Chrysler.

    M.R.

    Bought and sold.

Picked up a 2010 M5 with 6k on the clock, Silverstone Grey, Silverstone leather interior, all the options. The car is a blast to drive and I get 2 day M school as a bonus. Got a great deal on the car and the trade in value.

I will miss my MSRT but I will return once a factory supercharger emerges.

How well does a M5 handle with the Deacon on it? Did you get a small deacon or a large rather rotund deacon?

LOL! The Deacon definitely creates some unwanted oversteer!

I'll be hanging around for a bit, as I still have 2 other LX's, just not the MSRT.

Maintenance is not an issue, so it doesn't concern me at all. I like how the car looks, drives, handles and get's looks. Not to say my MSRT didn't do it for me either, it was just different.

Here are some pics of the M5, GhettoWagon05, you don't have to look.
