I'm half tempted. I have an early build '05 (got it in June of '04) and I'm about 1500 miles shy of running out the powertrain warranty. Yesterday, as I was driving home from Lake Erie (about 220 miles) I started hearing a wierd whining sound at highway speeds. The wierd thing is that the noise stayed constant. It didn't seem to change pitch with the speed of the engine, or the speed of the wheels. No idea what it is, but I'm going in this week to find out. I had a similar noise about a year and a half ago, and the dealer flashed my computer and it went away.....until now.
Yep, that new powertrain deal looks tempting! Sadly, I have an R/T with 73,500 miles and still owe about $13k on it. I doubt I'd get a good deal and payments on a new one. :(
OK....this thread got me thinking.....and researching. According to KBB.COM, I should be able to get about $15,000 out of my car if I trade it in. I owe $13,000 on it, so that would give me a $2000 down payment. Well, Chysler is offering either $3000 off, or 5.9% for 60 months. Here's the beauty, if I take the $3000 off, I can get 5.9% from my bank! I think it is time to pay a visit to the dealer and see how accurate the internet is!
I'm my opinion its better to sale then trade. Might wanna try autotrader.com... Dealer wont give you squat and then they boost the sale and make an profit.. For instance this is my story..
I owned a 01 Dodge Stratus 2.4l. When I was ready to trade and get the love of my life, a 5 Star Dodge Dealer appraised my car at $1,985. The facts where that I paid 9k for it used at 50k miles and owed $2.7k on it. Had only 76,000k. I told the salesman that they could take that apprasier paper and shove it where the sun don't shine.
I mean $1,985 for this.. I know aftermarket parts dont really count in the deal but still.. Stratus w/ Black JDM headlights wheels in the deal and etc. And on top of that the car was clean inside and out.
I took my buisness else where and decided to sale rather then to trade. Posted the Stratus on Autotrader and 1 week and 1/2 later it sold for $6k. In my case I sold it for what I wanted to sale it for and someone who needed his first wheels bought it.
A dealership in my area has an r/t for sale with 68k miles on it asking $18k+.... Just try your hand at selling rather then trade. What do you have to lose except your car and possibly gain more money.

The local 5 star dealer told me that he'd give me $14000 for it. KBB.com said that it was worth 15k. He told me that Magnums sell better on the coasts than they do in the midwest. I told him that was all fine and dandy, and that that is a 2 way street. Since Magnums don't sell well in the midwest, I expect a good discount on a new one. The dealer couldn't find an '07 with the 2 features I wanted (safety package and Uconnect), so I suppose I'll look on the internet and check inventories. If I can't find a good deal, I'll just keep the '05. She's been good to me, but since I drive a lot (73.5k miles) I thought this new warranty would be a good idea. If I don't get a new car now, I hope they'll still offer this when I pay off the Mag in 1.5 more years. I'll probably check other dealers in my down time, just for the hell of it. I'm sure someone will want to sell me a car at a good price. This dealer told me that he'd ordre me an '08 at invoice if i wanted one. So far, it doesn't look like the '08s are on Dodge's site yet, so I can't price one out.

The dealer ain't kidding. I just did an inventory search in several cities in OH, MI, and MA and I can't find a Maggie with the protection package. It's pretty sad that those are hard to come by.
I've done transfers before. When I bought my '01 Stratus, they transferred it in from Louisville, KY to Cincinnati, OH. There was really no hassle involved. Now, the trick is to find a Maggie with the protection package and the UConnect. At this point, I think I'm going to skip on the NAV unit if I do buy a new car. The REC is the biggest piece of crap I've seen as far as factory NAV units go. The maps are far from inclusive and the fact that there is no touch screen is a major hinderance. I'll either go with an aftermarket NAV, or wait until the gurus manage to get a MyGig unit to work in the '07s.
