    Help with Towing Package

Today I went to visit my newly delivered RT on the dealers lot. The dealership was closed so I will talk to them in the morning. But I need a quick piece of information. I ordered the towing package on my RT, but when I checked it out, it doesn't have a reciever installed.

Can anyone tell me if the reciever is part of the package, or do I still need to ORDER one? Maybe it's dealer installed and they just haven't gotten to it yet. Any info would be appreciated.

The tow package is the extreme duty cooling and Nivomat self leveling shocks. The reciever and draw bar and wiring is your responsibility. There are a few threads with the DCX part numbers here. I will tyr to dig them up in an edit after I put this reply up.

To jump on the bandWagon , am I right to believe that the gross weight rating (or maximum load) of the Mag remains the same with the tow package? This is important for me for tax purposes in my country (I only get to expense the fuel if the max LOAD is high enough - more than regular Mag).

The GVWR - Gross Vehicle Weight Rating - is a fixed number that is on the plate in the driver door jamb.

The number that includes a trailer: Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR): The value specified by the manufacturer as the maximum allowable loaded weight of the vehicle with its towed trailer or towed vehicle.

Figured that much, just thought that perhaps the car should have a greater LOAD capacity on its own, with the modified shocks.

You should be able to ORDER the hitch and the wiring harness FROM the dealer. I did for mine and they also installed it. Went to U Haul for the 5 inch offset stinger INSERT and ball and verification of correct plug pin-out on the wiring harness. Total cost at Dodge and U Haul was just under $500. Wiring was actually correct.

I installed the hitch and wiring harness myself. The hitch assembly took all of about 30 minutes and the wiring took a little longer-about 90 minutes. I am not anywhere near being a "mechanic" but I do know how to hold a wrench. So unless your dealer wil install for a reasonable price, try doing it yourself.

guinnesshouse was the wiring all plug and play or did you have to tap some wires for the installation?

think you feel bad about you hitch? i felt the same way. the word tow should have been left out of the equation. i also own a pacifica that i ordered dvd and navagation ( keeps the kids happy with movies) you should have seen the look on my face when i picked up my rt awd that i waited for 6 mths. for only to find out that the DVD/NAVAGATION system is a dvd based navagation system and there is no dvd system available. so i asked what other kind of navagtion system could i have ordered? alas there is only one... so the "DVD" should have been left out of that equation also... im sure that i am not alone.

Hey Fred, basically it was plug and play. There was one minor hole that needed to be drilled and some silicone sealant was needed to seal that hole. I thought it was going to be tough according to the directions but once I got started it all just flowed together. After it was all done, it has got to be the coolest looking hitch setup I have ever seen. It is completely hidden when the "male" end of the hitch is not needed.

You have to keep in mind that in the car sales world they are a year or 5 behind... DVD is a new concept, as previously you'd need map CDroms, like 6-8 to cover the US and you'd have to switch them out based on where you are traveling...
