    Fuel Warning Light

Well I finally let the fuel get low enough to have the fuel warning come on and the chime sound. Drove 3 miles after the the light came on and filled up with 15.4 gallons, which means if the bingo light comes on I better not be too far from the gas station.

My AWD Magnum holds 18 gallons also. I think AWD Magnum tank is larger than the RWD Magnum tank though.

    from FSM:

    FUEL TANK CAPACITY

    Vehicle/Liters/U.S. Gallons

    LX V-6 Engine RWD/ 68 / 18
    LX V-6 Engine AWD/ 72 / 19
    LX V-8 Engine/ 72 / 19

Nominal refill capacities are shown. A variation may be observed from vehicle to vehicle due to manufacturing tolerance and refill procedure.

You do love the tech speak, don't you dude.

I guess it's a good thing they didn't do a 26 gallon tank like a couple GM cars I had, been big $$$ to fill up.

My warning chime/bell starts to sing around the same time, so I'm assuming that it goes off when there are about 3 gallons left?? The last time I filled up I put in about 16.5 gallons, so I was pushing it close, but don't want to do that too often b/c I'll shorten my fuel filter life!

    Remember what ASSUME spells.

If it were my car I would run to a gas station as soon as the light/chime sounded and fill up in your usual manner and deduct the amount filled from 18, unless you have an RT or AWD RT/SXT then subtract from 19 gallons. The reason I say this is there can be as much as 1 gallon difference in when the light comes from car to car on and that knowledge can be the difference of being stranded or making it to the filling station.

???? I think the guy was refering to the posibility of overheating of the fuel pump when so low on fuel. These fuel pumps are cooled by the fuel itself, and some say it's not good for the pumps to let tank get extremly low.

    True,
Luckily where I drive 95% of the time there are multiple gas station's within a miles radius of each other so I have some options, but I never let it get to that point while travelling in areas I'm not familiar with.

So far, the fuel light has come on whenever there are 2 gallons left. The guage and EVIC will ready empty (0 miles to empty) and there is always 1-1.5 gallons left in the tank even at that point.

That's another reason I'm supect of the mpg's some of you guys are reporting.

Nothing as accurate as doing the math at each fill up of the tank.

Actually, I've been keeping track of the EVIC average and the actual average at every fill up since I bought the car. It's never been off more than a half a gallon to my memory.
