    Unhappy exhaust leak?

    hi,

i'm new to the forum and Magnum. i'm experiencing what seems to be an exhaust leak. when i accelerate hard, and have the vents open (i.e. not recirculating AC) i get a strong exhaust smell inside the car. i'm heading to the dealer on saturday to get it checked but wanted to see if anyone else has noticed this.

Welcome to the forum. No smell on mine and I havent heard from anyone else. Sometimes a cracked header can cause this but not many crack on a new car. Have you had any exhaust or, header or cat work done? Dealer looks to be the best bet.

There have been several threads about this. I had the same "odor" as well. Not sure what the cause is, but it's there. Noticed it soon after I purchased the car, and also after I put on the Magnaflows and a plastic bag got sucked under the car while I was driving. It stuck to the exhust pipe and would cause an odor when the pipes got real hot. You can actually still see some remnants on the pipe. It took a few weeks to burn most of it off. Take a look see under the car and see if there is any plastic melted on your exhaust.

even if it is the cats, why is the smell filling the car? where is the vent intake? i don't need any CO poisioning offsetting my morning caffeine buzz.

I agree. One of the few annoyances I about the car. It shouldn't happen, period.

Air intake is on the passenger side where the 'cabin filter' option sits. There is a cover that gives you access to that area to get at the filter (if you have that option). Look Here for pix

How do you describe this odor? I get a peculiar burnt something or another odor immediately following a vigorous romp on the gas. The odor becomes immediately apparent...and lasts 10-15 seconds then is gone.

My initial reaction was that it smelled like clutch lining...but I am driving an auto and not slipping the clutch. There may be a tad amount of sulfer content in the odor...which may actually lead back to the cats...
