2005 Magnum RT Hemi's - Magnesium Pearl
bI have used LIDAR for the past month. I have noticed that darker colored vehicles sometimes are hard to get a reading. The Magnums have a large front bumper so a LIDAR signal can be reflected back. I first aim at the bumper where the plate should be. Then I aim at the headlight. The headlight will most definately reflect the LIDAR signal back and get a speed reading. The only car that I have noticed that are hard to get a reading is the Corvette. Without a plate they are hard to get a speed lock from a distance due to the small frontal area and sweeping body lines.
I love the LIDAR!!! Gives you the speed of the violators vehicle and the distance away that speed lock was made. There was a TV news piece the other night about the CHP getting the LIDARs. The piece was named, "READY, AIM, BUSTED" Gotta love it.

Nice shootin' there Shaggin....I can see where the front of a Mag looks like a huge target to the uninitiated and it may take a sec or 2 to realize you need to hit where the bumper is behind the plastic or a headlight to get a good read. TX also requires front plates and there is no doubt in my mind why the plate also has a HIGHLY reflective surface. It's the bullseye for sure. I just wish they didn't ruin the whole look of the front end....just Fugly. Most of the cops around here are still using X-Band (locals) or K-Band (for the occasional high-volume killings they make with 10 motorcycles for chase and a couple of squad cars to shoot us down). I believe only high-dollar neighborhoods and the Staties have Lidar at this point.
All my posts are made from 100% recycled electrons!
Well I got LIDAR'ed today wound up costing me 355 bucks for 45 in a 25...
Didnt see the frickin school zone... I have driven that road a thousand times, and never noticed the school.. The zone start 100 feet before and ends about 100 feet after a traffic light at a split highway (not divided just has a turning lane) accros from the school is a strip mall...
Damn.. Well off to court Ill go. Im calling a local lawyer to fight it for me... I fight em all. This is only my second in 8 years, but before that I was getting 3 in a 6 months, then nothing for 3 years, then 3 more... for like 15 years in a row :(

Hi Flo Cats
Way to go OZ!!! The hands out the window and rear windows down trick works all the time for me to. Only problem I have with what you said is I take the plate off and not get pulled over for speeding BUT for not having a front plate. Jersey STINKS.
I wonder if it has anything to do with:
A> He was using light to measure speed.
B> The car is black. (Black doesn't reflect very much in the visible and near visible spectrums.)
C> And it's a Magnum...(perhaps the shape of the front end does something to scatter light...very fiew flat surfaces to hit... dunno just surmizing here)
Did the radiator cap mod: SRT8 is here....

I heard IL state troopers don't even bother LIDARing your license plate, they go for chrome on SUVs and headlights on other cars. I don't think anything in the market out there now will save your behind from a well trained cop. Heck, if he has a hard time hitting you with a LIDAR or radar, he might just come up with another excuse and pull you over anyway. Plus in IL, there are laws against anything that blocks LIDAR (sprays, license plate covers, and etc.)
Just follow a pack of cars from far enough (quarter to half a mile) and watch the brake lights. That is how I managed to get to IA without a tickets this thanksgiving. There was a cop about every 25 miles. They sure love those underpasses :-)

GREAT Story Oz!
I wonder how much of this is due to the SRT grille, and whether my mesh grille is any different in its characteristics... but with no front plate and the narrow beam of the LIDAR would the grille even matter?
A big Me Three on that, buddy. The limo tint on the back windows can't be giving these folks any warm glows. Had a chance to put it into practice back in September. Was late for a flight out of San Jose and SJPD hauled my ass over to the side of the road. Shut down, assumed the position, copped to the truth and drove away with a stern warning.
