    Dimension info

Hi guys. I'm from Europe and are looking to import a magnum from USA. For importrax reasons (which can go over 15.000 dollar, CRAZY!) I would like to know some dimensions.

See above picture. Can someone please measure these dimensions?

I can get the car on a company license plate (and pay less tax) if the car is able to load a 'virtual' box with the following dimensions:
    - Length 49.5 inches
    - Width 7.87 inches
    - Height (the CRITICAL Factor) 38,6 inches.

Your help would be very appreciated.

Hmm... well, its very snowy outside (and 5 am ), but if I can find some measuring tape I'll see if I can figure it out for ya!

EDIT - Hate to say it, but I can't find my measuring tape anywhere. My mother came over a few weeks back and did some cleaning... my guess is that she found some clever place for it that I'll never think to look.

EDIT2 - However, I DID just dig up this post: Real world cargo dimensions

Just wanted to post as an FYI in case anybody was wondering what size box will actually fit back there. We used a tape measure to check first and it was pretty misleading...you lose ~6" at the back b/c of the sloping hatch and a couple inches of height b/c you have to load stuff on a slight downward angle b/c of the rear opening being a little higher than the floor level.
Looks like she's not tall enough. HOWEVER: if you removed the cargo bay floor and the liner underneath, who knows. Theres tons of space down there right above the spare.

The height is a problem, its close with package tray removed , but not quite. This is a very low profile car. If you compare to the old Mercedes E320 wagon, the MB has more room but a helluva lot less zoom. One of my customers was comparing his E320 to my RT, then he drove the Magnum, he was giggling like a schoolgirl ! He says" As soon as I get back to New York, I buying one of these!" BTW If you need help importing one PM me as I have a business partner in Holland and we send stuff to Europe often.

Since you're in europe, can you make the time to go look at the 300 Touring model? It's the same rear end as the magnum, just with the 300 Front Clip.

Max height from rear view with folding floor IN: 27"

Max height from rear view with folding floor OUT: 32"

Length from center to center: 38"

One more question, why can't you lay the box flat? It'll fit perfect then.

    Thanks for your reply's.

I think it is just too small. About your question why the box can;t be laid down: It is a virtual box. This is described in our law, if THAT size fits in the car (exactly in the position as described), it can be imported as a company 'cargo' car/truck, which saves about 15.000 dollar on a 2005 magnum.

To give you guys an idea: The magnum 5.7 hemi (here it is the chrysler 300c touring) costs $96.000 DOLLAR here NEW. If I import one from USA it is only about $33.000 NEW. But our goverment tries to prevent these imports by a mandatory tax on import cars. This goes up to 40-50% from the new value, and then also a sales tax of 19%. (the new price on a car is almost 60% for our goverment, and about 40% for the dealer).
Holland, what a great country..... :(

This import tax is NOT needed on cars that can be marked as company cars used for freight carriage... So for example a pickup SRT10 is no problem, but this magnum is just too small (2 inches....)

    Thanks anyway.

Here is a suggestion, Get Hemi Ram quad cab,or Cummins diesel. Cummins diesels can be modded for incredible power and are very fuel efficient. The hemis can be converted to natural gas for the Netherlands. The quad cab trucks can seat 6 people and can be fast, at least with a little help from nitrous, see my signature. Drive one if you can, they are sweet and 100%Mopar. $15,000 ain't right , we don't have high taxes for imported Dutch products. Mabe I should boycott all Dutch products, no more Shell gas, Dutch chocolate, cheese, sausages , etc. The Magnum is a Canadian car with a Mexican motor built buy a German company. Shame on Daimler Chrysler for ripping off you guys too.

Buy a 300 touring and the panels off the front end of a magnum... the whole front clip can't cost more than the 300 front end does, which I seem to recall is around $5,000.

Formerice: Thing is I want a Magnum, nothing else...
I've seen some on the SEMA, on my decision can't be changed....

SuperT: 300C 5.7 hemi costs $96.000 here at the local dealer. So it's not only that I want a magnum instead of 300C, it is also the fact that your cars cost only a third of the price.

So even WITH the import tax, it is cheaper to get one from USA. But if that 'box' would fit, it was even MORE cheaper...

I think I'm gonna get me a magnum anyway, only thing is that I have to save a bit more, so it will take a longer time
Right now I only have/had Japanese cars, since i'm the owner of a japcar import/export tuningstore. Time for something else after 8 years. Just for fun.

I'm shocked at how expensive the car is over there! However I think you will very much enjoy the car. Too bad the back is not high enough... I guess it's partly due to the low profile "mean" look of the car.

You could make that virtual package work if you were to take out the spare and rear deck and toss it in the back seat!

Lastly, I guess it's flattering for us to hear that you're that interested in a Magnum! We love ours and I'm sure you'll love the car too. Not to mention you get the added bonus of having a totally unique car over there! People are going to be wondering what the hell it is! That'll be fun as heck I'm sure.

To me, the Magnum is still an American car. Sure it is built in Canada, but designed by Americans except for some Mercedes components. Same with the engine. Designed by Americans (the 2.7 & 3.5 were made before Daimler) whether it's built in Mexico or not. For example, most Sony products are now built in China, before that, Maylaisia. But they are still considered Japanese products aren't they? If a French Artist traveled to Italy, bought the canvas and paint supplies in Italy and painted a painting of the leaning tower of Pisa, would it be considered a French painting or an Italian painting? See my point?

I know how you feel, I had owned Jap cars and trucks since 1974, then my Dutch buddy was over and convinced me to drive a Magnum. WOW! I will email him as he may know of an angle to get one cheaper. Example if I was to sell you one cheap, like $5,000, just a thought. Your government sucks even worse than ours.

Another first here at lx forums!

Someone with acess to a mag with a factory 300 clip wants a "reg" mag!

If the box will fit laying down why would it have to stand up?
at less than 8" wide it wouldn't be too virtually stable!

"If the box fits, you must a mag get"

To me the 300 Touring over here in Germany is not a Mag with the 300 front, but a 300 with the Mag rear....the interior is 300...and has the 300 chrome pieces inside and out, etc...

They are built in Graz, Austria.
