    damages FROM the body shop

After deatailing lil Suzy today, I noticed several things wrong that I have to take up with the body shop that did it. Major drag as they are as tired of me as I am of them. Nevertheless, I have a ding on my gear shift, the driver's rear window won't roll down now (I'm sure it''s just a fuse... well... not sure but it probably is), I have massive amounts of overspray on my rims:

scratches that won't buf on the top corners where they let the roof rack rub as they were removing it:

a freakin screw in my tire:

and now, since they've pissed me off, they are gonna respray the doors where the paint is a different color under where the side moldings were:

The body shop manager told me they were not resposible for the color difference since I removed the moldings. I was worn down by then and let it slide. Being that I now have to return, I'll remind him and the district manager, if need be that the fact is I have a new car with a paint flaw thats under warrenty. They are gonna give me a loaner this time too. They don't knwo it yet but that's they way it's gonna be.
It's a shame more people don't love what they do, man.

I don't understand why they even sprayed the hood anywhere near the car. They could have sprayed it in the booth and then installed it and not had any worries about overspray.

Oh well, hope they get your car straightened out.

That sucks. It's hard to find anyone that gives a tiny little rat's ass about quality any more. Last time I used a new body shop, they left my transaxle (90 honda accord) empty and it locked up on me a mile FROM the shop. Thank God I have two friends that own body shops now. If the work is bad, at least I can kick their asses without going to jail.

    Good luck, buddy.

well, on their bahalf, they had to spray the whole rood cuz they chaved the rood rack. Still, these could have just been draped.
there are many things that blew about it. My old hood has surface scratches now that have to be buffed out or I at least have to mention to anyone that wants to buy it, my sunroof deflactor is all scratched up so I scrapped it, and there are man many little scratches all over the car that have to be buffed out. Looks like a dude with rivets in his jacket was working on it or something.
    bummer, man.

I do everything to my rides and others BUT paint. (Unless it's small parts etc) The paint shop I use is fabulous BUT I still put the stock wheels on when my rides go there or others, and will do some other things myself if I fell the need bec no matter how good the place, they still will never have more pride in a ride then I do. It's just the way you have to think even if they are a great shop. It's rare to find a Perfect Body Shop. Wish I had the time or place to practice paint. Fiberglass molding, body work etc I'm good, Paint....jus never got INTO it.....

Grin, I'd put a screaming on somebody!!!!!!

Seems to me everything is a reasonable request except the one regarding the paint being different under the mouldings. The mouldings weren't meant to be removed. If I was the manager, I would of told you the same thing.

Grinner, I know this is off topic, but did you do something to the finish on your magnum? It may be the camera angle, but that is one of the finest "mirror" finishes I have ever seen! Especially the door view. If it weren't for the parting line of the door I would have thought you were shooting through glass. You can't see, at least in this picture, any orange peal. I usually always see a little of that in a factory finish. Anyway, I sure hope that body shop stands behind their work and takes care their sloppiness.

I have paiste waxed the rest of the car exept now for the roof, hood and rear bumper as they shouldn't be waxed for another 2 months or so dude to being so fresh.

does anyone else agree the paint prob on the doors is my bad?
While I did remove the moldings, I just don't see how faulty paint on a brand new car could fall under my expense.

Based on a thread I saw a month or so ago, I think it is your bad. But if I recall the thread correctly, the paint faded to match in afew weeks. Anybody else recall this thread?

On my Expedition, I took off the moldings also, on the rear driver door it looked like I peeled the clear coat off with it but there was no clear on the tape. I went to the dealer and said when you fixed my door you didn't remove the molding. Just a guess If I didn't remove the molding they did a damn good job bec I didn't notice it and almost a year went by. BUT he said let me CHECK INTO it. The door got scratched up coming off the truck and they just went ahead and fixed it. Was told to get it fixed and give them the bill, it was cheap to blend and clear but I was shocked they even cared. Peeling off the molding revealed a dealer banging up my ride.

I think the moldings were hiding his messed up door and not the point that he took them off. I don't know if you showed them before taken it upon yourself to fix it up.Their job was to shave the roof and paint it all up nice. Not to shave it and then mess up the rest of the car and say it's Gins fault bec he wanted the roof shaved. They took no pride in doing the work. They should have taken the job if they couldn't handle it. The screw in the tire.....I remember when I worked for a shop customers would come back and go, do you have a screw like this and we would say yup, and then they would say well I took this out of my tire....we would pay for it. Overspray on the rims, again body shop fault (even though I would have never left them on togo to the body shop) they should take care of it, been there done that.

Now the banged up hood, wiper hitting it etc...well it should have been fit first, (weather grin did it or the shop) prepped up all nice and if the shop saw flaws in it they should have told him and said to fix it will cost $xx.xx. Not like he didn't give up the Greenbacks for this work.

    Grinner,

I know your pissed about the scratches and overspray. I can't find a anyone to do decent work any more. I just discovered I've been driving with the self adjusters not working on my rear brakes on my classic car. Turns out they had close but no cigar brake shoes. They never tested the self adjusters when they reassembled the rear brake drums. My self as a novice mechanic discovered that the adjusters weren't functional.

Taking of fthe moldings and complaining about the paint is akin to removing the headliner and complaining about the paint job underneath of the roof. Good luck in getting the scratches and the overspray fixed. The over spray should be easy to remedy but you shouldn't have to do it.

Scratches are tough. I had a stereo company install a hand free bracket for my phone. Car came back with a 6 inch scatch in the bumper. They swore it was there went I brought the car in. They showed me where they wrote it on the ORDER form. They never showed it to me before they started working on the car so I think they were a lying sack of BS i(Car Toys in Tigard Oregon.) I'll never go back there again; a bunch of slimeballs who lied about a scratch they knew they had done but I had no recourse.

Good luck with your fixes. Hood looks great.
