LX Auto Headlights for the rest of us

Forum mate ffd318 gave me this tip and I've done it and figured I should pass it along. It may be here somewhere but I can't find it.

All along, those of us without the dual climate control have been envious of the auto headlight mod.

Well, we can have the mod. Kind of. If you don't have dual climate control and perform the mod to the switch, you will then have auto on headlights. Your headlights will come on about 5 seconds after you start the car, day or night. It's auto on, not auto dark sensing. That make sense? I use it sometimes, but turn it off sometimes too.

For me (05' Magnum SXT 08/04 build), all other light functions work as normal. Low beam, High beam, Flash to pass it all works. It just turns the headlights on when I start the car.

    Anyway, hope this helps someone.

If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying? If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?

I think anything "can" be done. But you have to change out wiring harnesses, buy the sensors, get the computer upgraded. It's really not worth it to me and I have not heard of anyone who has done it.

see ground breaking. I wonder if the plugs are there and you could just plug a light sensor into it.

    Yes and no......

You cannot just install the sun sensor..... it actually is wired into the ATC climate control panel. The ATC controller is on the CAN BUS, which is what controls the headlights.
Now, if you want to upgrade the whole climate control system, I am 100% confident you can add the lights..... I have all of the parts in the garage to do the conversion from manual to auto A/C..... I just need to find the time and motivation to remove the dash from my SRT8 to complete the project!

Any estimate on the price of those parts? Does your parts stash include the light sensor?

I hope he's successful. I've dreamed of doing the same thing. I'd like to have the dual zone climate control as well.

But for now, we've got the partial headlight mod.

I have been working on this project for a while. I think I have all of the parts that I will need, with the exception of the complete wiring harness for the dash. It is expensive, and I really see no need to make the purchase of that part, as it is easy enough to hard wire the ATC controller.
As for the other parts, they are not too bad...... I had the ATC in my RT, and the SRT does not have it..... It is one of those things you think you can live without until you have already had it......
As for this info, I can't be 100% sure it is accurate, as I have not done the actual conversion yet. When I get the project done, I will post all of the details..... but here is the list of parts I have so far. To do the swap, you will have to completely remove the entire dash from the vehicle. The steering column is attached to the dash, and must be removed as well.

    Prices are from www.makeitmopar.com

    ATC controller 55111030AC 108.75
Blend air door housing 5137700AB 129.00
Power blower motor module 5061587AA 27.64
    Sun sensor 4596496AA 19.01
    A/C harness 5061097AA 30.26

Hopefully I will find the time to complete this project right after the holidays and CES..... My free time lately has been spent playing with other things on the SRT8.....
