Another spin on the Magnum demise.

After washing and waxing---loading up new mp3s and flying down the road I began to ponder what if. What if there never was The Magnum? It would be like what if there were never Lights, Sound, Guitar, Drums-

    Let there be Magnum!

I think it is the coolest car I have ever owned and unless someone somewhere takes a major leap, I don't see it anytime soon. You either got the Magnum or didnt' and if you did; it is almost impossible to describe how you do..to what extent you dig the Magnum. Even other car lovers find it a strange beast, but they get it too in someway it's like a massive dragon from some far off land -- like some creature from a hollywood movie that landed, ruled and was called to return. Luckily we are left with one badass ride.

    Long live the Magnum-

I definitely think it's one of the coolest cars I've ever owned and qualifies for a position in the top five. That might not seem like much, but I've owned 54 of them. It's really a shame that more people didn't "get it", but that's just the nature of the beast, and a sign of the times. It seems unlikely to me that there will be anything like it for a looong time (if ever). Based on the current direction of auto manufacturers, we'll see lots more soul-less attempts, but nothing like the Magnum. I'd love to be proven wrong, and hope to Hell I am..............

Magnum is a niche vechile, but it will be the car at the auto shows where people will be asking, "what kind of car is that". And you can smile and nod at them
So damn custom, I don't even need a sig!

I love my Magnum, and if my engine in my van had not gone I would not have one. This world works in wierd ways, but I am very happy that it does.

Attaboy Merl...well said...I just spent the day driving my Mag all over the place including a trip through Fossil Rim Wildlife Refuge and then 80mph back and forth to the place....was a pleasure all day....even if you don't like the style, the car is always ready to go and fun to drive....

The crossovers killed the Wagon, Dodge stopped marketing it, people just saw it as an attempt to re-birth the; dare I say, the "station wagon". And it is, but its not your momma's wagon. I am considering buying one and hanging on to it, see if it can make a showing at Barrett Jackson some day. Its an LX, so it great, just misunderstood.

How many of us snicker and answer yes to the Cadillac commercial when it asks, "When you turn your car on, does it return the favor?"

I was sitting at a light a couple of days ago, and this guy in an SUV next to me rolled down his window and told me "That is style right there!! That is nothing but pure style!! You're really looking good!!! In typical LX fashion, I just grinned from ear to ear and said "Thank you!"

I remember thinking a couple of weeks ago, that I couldn't think of another car that looks like it "owns" the road like a Magnum does. It has a sort of "low profile, unassuming aggressiveness". There is nothing else like it!

And here I was totally pissed just over a month ago when I totaled my Crown Victoria...but it was all for the better because I got a Magnum. A few times recently someone has asked my about the Crown Vic and I think "What car?...ohh yeah, the Crown Vic, yeah I remember that car now".

The Magnum made me almost completely forget about the Vic. It was a nice car, but nothing like the Magnum. In fact, I had wanted a Magnum R/T since they first came out, but really couldn't swing the cost. I made a few thousand dollars off the accident with the Vic, plus crappy resale value made it finally a reality.

    woot!

It will never change. Simply because 99.999% of people just don't get IT. And I'm not even talking about understanding the Magnum. They don't see any car as anything more than a pile of sheet metal and plastic. It's so sad.

Well, I have been pretty high on my 2001 PT Cruiser, bought new and now, with daughter driving, has 219,000 miles. I even told her that when she graduates from college in a couple of weeks and starts working, she can give the PT back to me so I can restore it and keep it forever.

Then, I look at the Magnum and think: THIS is the car I need to keep for the duration. And, since I already have 111,000 miles on her, she is worth nothing in resale, so it looks like she has a permanent stall in the barn.

As for the PT, well....maybe I'll just let the daughter trade it in and get $1,000 for her....nah, can't let it happen to the old girl....after all these miles.....

Looks like I have 2 keepers now. Funny, I don't have any such feelings about wifey's old Camry or son's Ford Focus ZX3.....

The Lord bless and keep your coming and going!

    Padre Dave

    You must be dreaming...you wouldn't get $500 on a trade-in for a PT with over 200k mi.
