50K on Original Spark Plugs on Mag RT '05

Does anyone have an opinion on when to change the spark plugs in a 5.7 RT Magnum '05? Book says 30K. I'm currently rolling at 50K with the original plugs. Could it damage the car to just put it off?

plugs are cheap and easy to replace. why put it off?
not likely to damage anything. emissions may be adversely affected.

You may actually see a performance gain as well, I know my dad did after he changed them at 61K...lol.

no problem, it may misfire a little but these ignitions can pretty much light a pine log!

Just change them, they are easy to replace........................

Be sure to use some anti-seize (plug threads)and some dielectric grease (plug boots).

Might, might not, depends on the shape of the plugs you have now. I helped changed plugs on an 06 MRT that had 30+K on 'em and the old ones looked brand new...

As the manual stated I changed mine at 30k miles. THEY DIDN'T NEED IT! They could have easily gone another 15k miles if not more. However, in your case I think it depends on your particular 50k miles. If your 50k miles were all city driving on cheap gas your plugs might need changing. If your 50k miles were mostly highway driving on good gas like my 30k was your change window is just begning to open. My .02.

    50K Follow-up

Thanks everyone. I purchased this car 2 yrs ago off lease with just under 12K miles. Since then, it's lived 1/3 on highway and 2/3 in the city. I've used 89 Octane Chevron about 80% of the time, other 89 Octane Misc. brand 10%, and 87 Octane Misc. brand 10% (approximately, of course). Now, with 50K miles, and no obvious change in performance (not including the introduction of 10% ethanol in the last 6 months), ease of starting (and it does start easy), or mileage (getting about 17-18 mpg on average all along) I'm leaning towards leaving the plugs in there (as they say, if it aint broke, don't fix it). Thanks FloridaRT for the reminder on anti-seize and dielectric grease.

I'd change them. I changed mine at about 33k and they looked good, they probably had a lot of life left, but they are cheap so you might as well.

Just don't get the plugs at the dealer, they are a rip off. I paid $1.59 ea for mine at Checker Auto so it was about $25 total. Cheap insurance that the car will stay running well.

I'd pull out a random plug, if it looks like new, it's ok, if it's shot get some new ones put in. I ran 100,000 miles on a set of Denso Irridiums. Trust me, they were toast, electrodes were gone! Car ran perfectly. Our ignition system is hot as hell!

Don't forget there are 16 plugs in these things.

Other than there being 16 plugs, the job of changing them is relatively easy. These are nothing like those sideways V8 or V6 engines in some cars of the past where the "back side" plugs are nearly impossible to change.
Enjoy life- you only get one!!

It's kind of cool to walk up to the parts counter and tell the guy you need 16 plugs...

I'm about to change mine and I'm at 54,000km. I have the bosch +4 plugs on order so that I hopefully won't have to do them again for at least another 100,000km.

The place I'm buying them from quoted me a price of $7.00 each, so I ordered all 16. Then he checked his cost, and he regretted that he didn't check before telling me the price. He is going to honor the price, but I don't think he'll make any money. It will pay off for him down the road, as I'll be back for something.
