    that's a damper to smooth out pulsations from injectors opening and closing causing the fuel in the rail to start and stop abruptly, possibly causing resonnance in the fuel lines. it acts just like an air spring in your home plumbing to keep the pipes from rattling when you shut a tap off quickly.

    Okay... why weren't the RT engineers smart enough to simply move the crossover instead of wasting money on the air damper?

    Probably has something to with MDS.... The fuel rail would flow differently with only 4 injectors firing.... and weird stuff happens when it goes from 8 to 4 and back again.
