Question What are these plugs under the dash for?

I’m in the process of purchasing a Tekonsha PRODIGY brake controller and found that a wiring harness is available for vehicles with a factory installed port.

A look under the dash shows two different connections. This one looks like a diagnostics port –

The second has only two pins and is hidden further back. Its taped to another cable. I removed the tape to see the connector pins.

Here is a closer look at the connecter pins.

My Magnum came with the tow package so I would expect it to have the port under the dash for plugging in the brake controller but that’s a four port and these are not. Anyone know if a brake controller wiring harness port is under the dash in the Magnum?

Your first pix is of the diagnostic plug where the dealer plugs in the StarScan tool, or you could plug a Scan Gauge in. All vehicle info. can be read. Don't know what the other one is though.

The second plug is rumored to be the connection for the electronic tilt/telescoping steering wheel.

I think that second plug is for the trunk release button on 300's. The magnums don't have one. If you follow that harness up it will connect to the headlight switch.

That second plug isn't the trunk release or the tilt wheel control. I've got it hanging down on my 300C as well. I was thinking maybe it was for the adjustable pedals.

Trunk harness is far up 6 inches away from the light switch

I have power adjustable pedals and that plug's still dangling in my car. The wiring for the pedals is far right of the pedals.

So still no idea what this two wire plug is for? Has anyone measured the voltage at this plug? It would be too handy if it was a 12v supply line huh?

I used to have a '91 Mustang LX 4-banger (wife's car) that had a wire like that that was a cut-out for the ignition, There was a female connector with a 1" piece of wire completing the circuit. Occasionally one of my 11 D's would hit that connector and the car wouldn't start. The first time, it was a major to-do until I figured it out. After that, it was just a charming quirk that occasionally became a minor annoyance.

I guess it was intended to be an anti-theft device by the previous owner...

if it is the trunk release button it is 5 volts (the reference voltage for the canbus) i did measure it on mine.

Hmmm.... Browsing through the service manual might determine it, but of the connectors I looked at, only the trunk release was two pins. Don't have time to look at them all.

Sorry for bringing back an old thread, but I wanted to link in some relevant information about the correct Towing Harness location.

Also, see page 2 of that thread for a Tekonsha Wire Harness that plugs into that blue Dodge Towing Brake Controller Connector! Makes the Brake Controller almost Plug and Play, except for the blue wire (which again read page 2 of that thread because there is wire in the rear bumper on the RH side that you can tie the towing harness blue wire to which then feeds it up to the connector in the front. Spiffy!)
