Hey guys!![]()
I was wondering if anyone else has this problem or know whats up could chime in on this if its an issue or not
I've had this problem for awhile. Every time I cold start my car its great no weird noises or anything; however, when my car is fully warmed up (185F - have t180 stat) the driver side front wheel area will have a weird knocky sound once per revolution during idle / low rpm while in drive.
Its more noticeable if I turn the fully warmed up car off for like 5-10 minutes and turn it back on it would sound like piston slap... or something like a diesel engine would sound like... actually it sounds alot like 2 large marbles hitting each other.
A few days ago I was reversing onto my fairly inclined driveway slowly (low rpm) and I could hear it louder and faster depending on rpm when I had my head out of the window.
The sound is very noticeable when I'm near the driver side front wheel well, the passenger side sounds perfectly fine.
The car has 52000 miles, routine M1 oil changes and level is good, no CELs, running caned 91 cai tune, stock tune would make the same noise.
I'll grab a video of the sound and post it sometime tomorrow![]()

Dodge Charger 5.7 R/T - Brilliant Black - BCR Coilovers, FTI 3200 Stall TC, Straight Flowmaster Super 44s, T-180 Stat, LMI True CAI, Diablo Predator 91 tune..
Do you by chance have headers on your car? mine made the same noise when my hearder gaskets blew. Also does it make the noise only when the car is moving or does it make the noise when youre in park reving the engine too?
take that rediculous [ 1000 hp] doing nothing for you at all 180 t stat out and reinstall the factory 203 t stat.
put the tune back to stock and run it a few days than report back..
that knock should go away or it will only be heard durning warm up between 160-180 degree's than shut up at 188 and hotter. NO noise warming up under 150 degree's... the noise will show up between 155-183 than tapper off to nothing at 188 to 203 which is the normal operating temp for proper timing and A/F Those canned tunes suck and a proper tune is done with a dyno to set timing-temp-a/f
IF that noise goes away with a stock t stat at full temp you burned a piston skirt.
I'd be unstoppable if it wasnt for Physics & Law enforcement
Stock Headers, I am also thinking that it could possibly be a blown gasket due to loose header bolts..
The car was doing this fully stock, lonngg before I changed the T-Stat and and had the Predator.
I'm assuming the reason why I can't hear anything during startup is because the rpms are high. When the car is warmed up hanging around 550-600 then I can hear it clearly.
Here's the video after driving home from work tonight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3f-vdle-Bo
Thanks for the suggestions so far guys!
Sounds like mine. I think its normal.
