    ummm hemi smoking upon startup..WTF?

    ok my 300c now has just over 5,000 miles on her and it started smoking at startup yesturday and it has me concerend. and before yall ask yes i changed the oil at 3000 miles. it is full of mobil 1 5w20 done by the dealership. but anyhoo what the hell is going on here? i mean the car is not beaten within an inch of its life or anything and with all of the tighter clearences that they build these engines with this should really not be happening.... especially on a $38,000 car!!!

    If you want to see a REAL smoke cloud, start it move it in the drive way and shut it off about three times in a day, then start it drop it into gear and go to an ambulance call using a fair bit of throttle, it will hide the road for the first hundred yards!! Mine has done it since new. Over 100k now with no ill effects and exactly the same results when it gets started and stopped a few times.

    What color is the smoke... and where is it coming from?

    It's normal,don't panic.It's a result of the PCV valve sending oil vapor into the intake.It collects and burns during start up.That's why alot of us are going with PCV catch cans.

    exhaust and its the oil burning blue color.. i am getting quite pissed and annoyed. now that i think about it my hemi durango i traded for the 300c did this as well on occasion. daimler-chrysler really needs to address this

    As Erik has said, its normal. 100% of the hemi cars do it.

    Mine has 102,000 miles and it uses no oil between 5,000 mile changes, but after adding the catchcan, I get a spoonfull every thousand miles. Just drain the catchcan every oil change.

    The one erik posted unscrews from the bottom and is easier to empty than a petcock.

    You should also beware of those that are just an empty canister... they won't really catch as much... the better ones have baffles, and the best ones have stainless steel wool in there for the oil / gas vaper to condense on...
