    Tires

Has anyone found any tires to REPLACE the OEM tires?

I think the OEM tires are weak. I have been looking to upgrade to a more high performance tire. All of the tire manufactures web sites like Goodyear, Dunlop, Michelin and any other one I could think, of do NOT have tires in the size that the Magnum needs. Has anyone found a good replacement tire

hooo boy, there is a loaded question! Not to sound priggish, but do a search for tires and wheels because there are actually a fair number of combos that will work.

    Bob,
why the 245s? Why not something wider?

What was your reasoning for changing the tire?

Could be because the width of the stock rims does not allow for wider than 245 (what's the width of that stock rim by the way?).

The other thing is that the only other available size wider than this (and that will NOT screw up your speedo and mileage) is 255/55/18. In this size, you get quite a few models and the margin of error on the speedo will be 1.4% (see tire size calculator here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html), that is reasonable.

If the stock rim width would allow it, you could theoretically have 265/50/18 or 275/50/18. These sizes are even better since the margin of speedo error is only 0.7%. Unfortunately, no companies (at least on Tirerack) seems to be making these sizes.

Damn, can't find a proper wheel/tire fitment TABLE on the net, but I don't believe you can go over 255 with a 7.5" wide rim (with a height ratio of 50). It's starting to stretch the limit.

    Personally I wouldn't use more than a 235 on a 7.5 inch rim.

    Tires

Thanks for the replys, but I would like to stick with the stock size.

    Let me restate my question.

Has anyone found OEM size tires that offer better performance? Such as a higher speed rating or better snow traction.

The stock Conti tires are the only tires I have been able to find in 225x60x18.

Nope. Tirerack.com, which offers 17 different brand of tires, only shows those damn Contis when you do a search for 225/60/18. I also looked for Toyos, one of the few major brand which are not carried by Tirerack, and they don't have that size too.

The problem is the 60 ratio for the height. You can get all kinds of 18 inches performance tire when you lower to 55 or 50 and increase width. But the stock size is just plain weird: not enough low, not enough wide.

I recently replaced the OEM Continentals on my RT for a couple of reasons--first one being my left front was destroyed due to sidewall damage FROM a road hazard and the second being I just could NOT pay $125 for one of these CRAPPY tires! So I bought FOUR of the 245/55ZR18 BFG tires FROM Tire Rack. WHAT A DIFFERENCE--while they are still 4-season tires they grip MUCH better than the Continentals and are very close in terms of "comfort." Worth every penny of the $400 I spent . . .

hit the nail on the head there - the overall diameter of the 300/magnum tire is much larger than probably 90% of the production cars out there, but not big enough for larger truck tires.. 28.6" is huge! compare to the stock diameter for a civic - 24.9" or accord - 25.7"..

gonna be a while before the niche is filled to our liking..

Actually one thing I didn't keep in mind was that we aren't talking about a low profiletire here so its not as much of an issue. 245's Should be a nice addition.
