The officer didn't crack any Hemi jokes, did he? If there's one thing I hate it's being handed a ticket by a laughing cop! As if getting the damn ticket wasn't bad enough...

no, no hemi jokes. it was pretty weak. He said he clocked me at 62 in a 45. what's really annoying is I was on 'one of those roads' where the speed LIMIT should be a lot higher than what it is, and no one ever drives 45 on it.

oh yeah, and he was in an unmarked car.

Geez, Scru, I hate to hear that! As a personal 'contributor' to the local infrastructure fund 3 times in the past year and a half, I can truly empathise with you..

Sorry to hear that. I once got a ticket for doing 50 in a 30 (it was about 100' before the 45mph zone started, eeeeerrrr). I went to court, got it reduced to 40 in a 30, paid in cash, they pocketed it and it never went on my record. Everybody was a winner.

As a rule, now, I never go above 9mph over the LIMIT in zones of 45mph and over. Seems to be working.

    I agree.

Not proud of it, but I just got my first one last Wednesday on a section of highway out here (Rt 495). I was doing about 60 mph in the far left lane, and the moved INTO the middle lane (clear for about 1/4 mile or so), and got on it a bit. I was passing an off/on ramp and getting ready to move over to the far right lane to take the next exit when I saw the blues come on. I pulled over, and the trooper came up to my window with the LIDAR gun still in his hand. After asking for my lic and reg, he asked if I knew how fast I was going? I said "no", but I figured that I was doing about 75mph or so. He showed me the display... 104 mph. WTF! I'm HAVING a hard time believing that I got that beast FROM 60 mph to over 100 mph in less than 1/4 mile - and that was not even my intent. I didn't floor it, and it certainly didn't feel like I was going that fast. The good news was according to the trooper was that he was not going to arrest me - the bad news is that I have to go to court because of the excessive speed. The trooper knew a lot about the car, and was reciting stats about it like the hp rating, tire size, etc.

just reading through site, this might help in future; supposedely, if you write a CHECK for your speeding ticket fine plus like 2 bucks, the cops will cash and record as paid, but clerk willhave to issue refund CHECK of excess and if you don't cash it final paperwork will not be forwarded to insurance agency so no points/ insurance penalties for 2 bucks or so...just a thought!

    yep that's bull...

If I am out of state, and I know I am gonna get a ticket, I make sure it's like 95 mph... Got one in GA, PA and NJ... NY Doesn't issue points for out of state tix! When I am in NY you bet I challenge tix issued in state, as the cops in this county never seem to SHOW up at the hearing and they get tossed.

I've also heard that they will send it back and and mark it down as unpaid and all of the fun that goes with that.

The last time I got a ticket was about 4 or 5 years ago when we were driving overnight to get to the gulf coast. I came around a turn and didn't see the change in speed sign because it was in with all of the other signs you sometimes see at a city LIMIT - Elks, Rotary, etc. As soon as I saw it, I took my foot off the gas but the cop's lights had already come on. I was hit with a 53 in a 40.

It was a podunk town, and after I got home, I realized that there wasn't a fine amount listed on it. I tried calling the number for the courthouse several times, but they were literally open about 10 hours a week - spread out over 2 or three days. I finally told my wife to write the CHECK for a "weird" amount - something like $57.13 and to send it. I figured if they asked, I would say that when someone answered the phone, that was the amount they told me to pay.

They cashed the CHECK and I never heard FROM them again. The ticket was on my MVR for 3 years and then dropped off.
