This question keeps coming up lately and every time it does it starts and argument with no clear cut winner. The sidwinder has been around forever and is a well proven cam. But many people think that the spartan has great potential and will be better than the sidewinder.

Can you just install and cam and nothing else and still see HP Gains
Sorry I am new to this type of mods
And you're set on those two? I personally recommend PPP...

no im not set on those two at all thats just the main two that i read about here so i figure they are a good choice....is there another route i can go?
ive heard good things about the sidewinder never heard about the spartan sorry bud!
hmmmm, i like my sidewinder...but I know NOTHING about the spartan.
How comparable on specs are they? Are you doing heads too? Cam only? Racing it?

no not racing just want some more horsepower....i just want a cam that will work with the stock heads
http://www.watsoncard.com/magnum/ LMI True CAI, FRI Heads, Sidewinder, Shorties, High Flows, Catback, Throttle Body, Predator
Fact: The Sidewinder is worth a solid 3 tenths / 35-40 horsepower with near stock drivability on stock computer/stock torque converter etc etc ....with Sidewinder specific tune it was better than stock driving characteristics and I could roast the tires at any point in 1st gear.
There are other cams that are good, decent, great, but none that have been proven as much as the Sidewinder in my opinion.
Stupid Nasty.... 9.59 @ 148
PWR heads+FRI intake / HHP-BES Forged 6.4 / HHP Stage 4 cam / KOOKS LT / Pro Torque 2800 / Southern Hot Rod NAG1 HTCr - V-7 YSI @ 19 PSI, 200 shot N20.
Honestly if you want some really good numbers and your not going to the track then really dont matter which one u chose.
I think the Sparten dynos higher but im not sure.
Id put it like this and I hope every one doesnt take this the wrong way.
Sparten: I think a good sounding cam that dynos with some good numbers!
Sidewinder: Really good track cam. Fastest Cam only 12.8 avg 13.3
With what you are looking for..... Do i have to say it?

sidewinder is proven itself over and over again.

Corsa Hotchkis ...so far.
I like my Sidewinder more every day. On a stingy dyno it gained +30rwhp and +25rwhp with a decent tune. You cannot tell there is a cam in the car listening to it idle, etc (other than the power). It also responded well when I added heads later on. I've never run the Spartan but everyone who does swears by it. Both vendors are top notch in my book so I'm not sure how one would make the choice. I went Sidewinder due to a deal FRI was offering at the time and it's excellent service record.

Well yeah, there are plenty of other manufacturers out there, have you at least considered and spoken with them before making your decision? You don't have to take one off the shelf either, vendors can work with you to develop a custom (same price) that suits your exact needs. I'm just sayin'...
