    Question !!!r/t V.s. Sxt!!!

Guys was up. Hey I am thinking of trading in my SXT for a R/T. My biggest problem and only issue is really know does thye R/T waste more gas than an SXT. I know it depends on a lot of things but in general I would like to hear from the R/T owners. Its just weird that on the Dodge website the R/T is listed as 16 MPG, and I went to a Dodge dealership this weekend and the car was listed ast 15 MPG. I am spending about $60.00 to $70.00 a week on gas with my SXT. I do all city driving, I bearly use the highway. The worse my car did was this week at 231 miles but it lasted a week. And the best I have seen on my car is 300 miles but that also lasted a week. I have a brand new SXT I got it like 3 months ago. PLEASE HELP ME OUT BECAUSE THIS IS THE ONLY THING HOLDING ME BACK FROM GETTING AN R/T.

I think that the Hemi with MDS is the best V8 out there for MPG. I drive mostly on two lane highways and 45MPH roads. I average about 20MPG. My wife drives a Jeep Liberty with a 3.7 V6 and gets 17MPG on the same roads. As far as saying that it wastes gas, I think that you would have to ask yourself how you are going to drive when your in an R/T. If you can't keep from putting it in autostick and stomp on the gas at every light your going to see the needle go to "E" pretty quick.
In the city I would think you would be getting less. If MPG is an issue then maybe look for something else.

It all narrows down to what you use it for. By the numbers you posted, it seems like you have a heavy right foot. My car is daily driven in the city as well. Just like how it is in my sig. and I still get 15.8 in the city. Usually I get about 280 to the tank in the city. Just recently evacuating from the storm, I drove 530 miles to Dallas and got 23.5mpg doing 80-85 going with the flow of traffic. That would've been over 400 miles to the tank if I let it go down that far. If I set the cruise at 70 I would have gotten better hwy miles. Like they say, who buys a v8 and worry about mpgs. you have to pay to play.

yeah, this totally depends on the driver... if i do all city driving like i do on a weekend off in my "C" (R/T), then i'm going to get about 16-18mpg... and, that's if i'm being light on the gas... but, if i'm revin' and droppin the autostick to 1st to speed off now and then, i'm going to get 14-16mpg easy...

i do hwy driving tho and some city, and my average is about 20mpg... when i do all highway, i can get from 22-24mpg, which i love... and, yes this is equivalent to the touring (sxt) i'm told...

I upgraded from an SXT and I never looked back. I lost maybe 2 mpg city but stayed about the same on the highway. There is a such a big difference in performance the slightly worse mpg is worth it.

My R/T gets about the same as you do with the SXT and I too do mostly all city driving. I also spend about the same per fill up at the gas station as you do. So IMO the gas won't be an issue when you pick up that R/T

The RT will cost you a little more doing city driving but highway travel is about the same as has been stated. If you want that extra "get up an go" then plan on paying for it. Do the math, it may cost you an extra 2-3 gals over what you are using now unless you have a heavy right foot. Is the V8 the only thing you are interested in or is there other options you wish you had?

I got 19 city MPG with my 05 SXT. My 07 RT gets 16 in the city. I drive the RT a lot harder than I did the SXT. Hmmm, I wonder why that is....

If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying? If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?

It's the disease that you have, its called HEMI-itis. The symptoms are a heavy fealing in your right foot that cause excessive down force. 2. It changes your face in ways you never imagine, causing ear to ear grin on it. 3. it my cause the snappping back of your head when excessive force is applied to the go pedal. And guess what there is no cure for it..

All R/T's are not the same.

My 06 Mag got 17.5 city and 24.5 highway stock. Intake, catback did nothing for MPG. 180 thermo and SC gained 1.5 highway, but stuck on 17-18 city.
I had to brake torque and mod to NOESP to get 8' of scratch off the line.

Momma's 22's smokes off the line at will. She gets 12 city and 20 highway on her 300. Go figure!

This is the same question I was asking earlier... the four letter word answer I had...

    HEMI.

It has been well worth the investment.

I just bought a 2008 SXT like in 3 or 4 months ago brand new. But I hear a lot that the r/t does better if not the same as an SXT in MPG.

You should think about all the money you will lose trading that soon after buying.(thousands). I say keep it for a couple of years and get some of your money out of it.
