PICS Of the 6.1 Headers on 5.7

Im doing this mod on my vacation.... and still have the drivers side to do. It took me about 4 hours to take off and install passanger 6.1 header.
Ive noticed a problem, the 6.1 hearders DO NOT have a 02 sensor. So whats my options to fix ths????
I drilled the hole for the egr valve. That was pretty simple. I did have to jack engine up to install the new headers.
I grinded and smoothed out the 6.1 header ports. They were in need of alot of rough factorty welds that obstructed the air flow.
ok... so on with the pics:

the bottom gasket is the 5.7, the top is the 6.1. As you can see there are alot of room for more air flow:

restrictive space as far as comparing gaskets? i dont know...
the exhaust ports on the heads are the same size as the 5.7 heeaders...
so you have a bigger tube, but the port is still smaller, not exactly removing restriction tehre,

the big restriction is that your going from a manifold to a header. the best and most tellign pictuer is looking into teh collectors- you can see 4 tubes on the 6.1, as compared to how the 5.7 juts kinda all dump into eachother randomly.

the swap is easy. works well too.
only thought it egr.

we did this at our first meet and greet some 2 years ago.

The 02 sensor on the 6.1 is in the cat pipe.6.1 factory headers will get you the same gain as a JBA header will,and the 6.1 exhaust ports are much larger than the 5.7's.

..... the 5.7 has 2 - o2 sensors [ one in the mids and one in the headers ]. I have jda catless mids[ i have one sensor in that hole, but there is NO hole for the 02 that goes in the header ]

The JBA mids will not fit the SRT headers.......they are too long.So you either need to have them shortened(have an 02 bung installed the same time).....or you need to get SRT mids(better way to go).

I don't have any experience with this, just remember reading it a bunch of times. In order to get the o2 valve on the 5.7 with 6.1 headers you have to drill/grind out that area on the 6.1 headers so that it matches with the 5.7 ones. I've read at least 5 different threads about this... one of them very recently... you should be able to find something to show pictures (of course they are already on so don't know how much that will help).

Good idea...if anyone needs another set of SRT ones, let me know. They do look like they'd flow better.

I recently did this when adding heads and cam. The 6.1 headers look HUGE compared to the 5.7s.... Buying a set of 6.1 headers and mids is a hell of a lot cheaper than going with JBA thats for sure.

I've been contimplating this (well... complete exhaust) as my next mod and wanted to go shorties anyway so I figured it would be a lot cheaper to get SRT headers and clean them up than buying new.

Still don't have the $$ right now but I will eventually. I want to have the $$ to do it all at once... but I guess I have to start somewhere.

i got a pair off ebay. pretty cheap.
ill post a parts list of 6.1 parts needed soon.
The install is a PITA! I HAD to remove the drivers side motor mount and jack up the engine to get to one bolt.
I post pics of this imfamous bolt as well.
