    Parking Lot "Lookers"

I don't know if it is just me and the town I live in, but it seems most of my "nice car" comments and people walking up and asking questions about my Cool Vanilla RT are old guys (and gals). Other than my 12 year old son's buddies, everyone who comments on my Magnum has an AARP card. I did overhear one young girl at my son's baseball practice tell her Mom that my car was ugly and her Mom made the hearse comparison.

Now I'm no youngster myself, I'll be 57 in a month, and this is the latest in a long line of hot rods and performance cars I've owned. It just seems that most of the admirers of my car are my age or older.

These include people who know exactly what the car is and that it has a Hemi (like to local hot rod shop owner who talked to me one Sunday afternoon) and people who have no clue, but like the car. This afternoon as I was getting in my car at the local supermarket, a nice older white haired lady (could have been my mother!) parked behind me and started asking me about my car, had me show her the interior and gushed over how much she liked it. She was still standing there admiring the car as I drove off and it was HOT here today in that parking lot.

So what is it? Is the "chopped and channeled" styling so reminiscent of the '50's that only us old folks remember and like it? Am I such a scary looking old fart that younger kids don't want to talk to me? Anyone else have the same experience?

Obviously the area you live in has little automotive taste. Time to move..

KIDDING!! areas do seem to have a collective " taste" so to speak... A lot of others on the board have had a lot of kids just go walleyed over the Magnum.. Go figure, eh?

    And the dead shall walk

Heh too funny. I've had a very similar experience, with one exception: more than once has someone commented I look like a "gangsta" in my Magnum. I personally have never seen a "gangsta" driving a Magnum, but I'm sure they are out there.

About a week ago I was in a parking lot walking up to a store front. Before reaching the entrance, I'm stopped by a lady in her late 60s early 70s. She starts right in with the performance and handling questions, talks about how she'd like to dump the Suburban for one, and how my comments have put her over the top. She finished the conversation by saying "... besides, it's REALLY going to look nice in the garage next to the Harley." I just had to laugh. That, right there, is the attitude I hope to have till the day I die.

My wife and I have very similar experiences with the lookers. It seems either they love it or they hate it, and typically if they love it they're our age (early 40's) or older with an appreciation for muscle cars. We brought it up to the Laconia, NH motorcycle rally this week and got a LOT of attention from the biker community. Ironically, even though the Magnum is arguably of German descent, even the Harley Davidson / "American Iron only" crowd showered us with compliments...

Ive noticed alot of older folk give me the thumbs up or say nice car, but im 19. I love the styling of this car, i like the way it looks like nothing else on the road. I also love the power this car has stock.

I havnt had to many "nice car" comments, plenty of stares though, people like to look at it. I dont like it when they look at it when it hasnt had a bath in a week (and if anyone knows oregon, it rains like crazy here) and it is covered in dirt.

I find out of every 10 people that gawk or comment nicely about my car, 7 are African-Americans. Most of my black friends/aquaintenances are really into cars and they tell me "we look at your car, because we know what good cars are". Makes me smile everything I think about it.

My very first comment came on day 2 from a woman mid 30s. I was waiting on line to turn left, she was a car or two ahead of me but two lanes over in the right turn lane. I happened to glance over and she had her head turned around and mouthed "nice car". That is the only woman who has commented (other than passengers). Mostly a guy thing around here I guess. No particular age group though. I enjoy the attention. I get a few unsoliceted comments every week.

So far I have had ALL ages from young kids on the street yelling "Sick Car" to seniors saying how nice the Magnum is.

I even had one female ask if there is enough room in the back to do the nasty!

See, our Seniors are looking for value when it comes to a car. Value for them in the LX's is their sheer heft and weight. Now, you plow into a vegetable market in a Honda Civic, how many people can you possibly expect to crush? In an SUV, it may be so far off the ground that some escape underneath the vehicle. However in a 300/Magnum, you can get a good running start. When your prosthetic leg gets stuck on the accelerator pedal due to the powerful motor, the drive-by-wire 'going crazy' is a great alibi, its 4000+ pounds will get you through that orange stand no sweat and its low enough so that even yorkshire terriers can't slip by. These are true crossover vehicles folks.

The other day I was getting out of my car at the grocery store and this guy (I would guess in his late 30's) said, "I was expecting Tony Soprano to get out of that car." I was like, Thanks I guess...

Yes, indeed there is enough room... I wonder though if the tow package or suspension mods would make the experience better or worse...
