I don't know if it is just me and the town I live in, but it seems most of my "nice car" comments and people walking up and asking questions about my Cool Vanilla RT are old guys (and gals). Other than my 12 year old son's buddies, everyone who comments on my Magnum has an AARP card. I did overhear one young girl at my son's baseball practice tell her Mom that my car was ugly and her Mom made the hearse comparison.
Now I'm no youngster myself, I'll be 57 in a month, and this is the latest in a long line of hot rods and performance cars I've owned. It just seems that most of the admirers of my car are my age or older.
These include people who know exactly what the car is and that it has a Hemi (like to local hot rod shop owner who talked to me one Sunday afternoon) and people who have no clue, but like the car. This afternoon as I was getting in my car at the local supermarket, a nice older white haired lady (could have been my mother!) parked behind me and started asking me about my car, had me show her the interior and gushed over how much she liked it. She was still standing there admiring the car as I drove off and it was HOT here today in that parking lot.
So what is it? Is the "chopped and channeled" styling so reminiscent of the '50's that only us old folks remember and like it? Am I such a scary looking old fart that younger kids don't want to talk to me? Anyone else have the same experience?
