    New to my Magnum R/T

OK sometimes I have the dumbest luck. I just got an '05 Magnum R/T about a week ago. I was checkin out the engine and took off the cover. Then when I went to replace it I was trying to line it up and press it in place a little, not very hard, and the plastic handle for the dipstick broke right off. I'm thinking the cold weather made it a little brittle. Does anyone have any bright ideas on how to get it out? The top of the plastic piece is about 1.5 inches down from being flush. I already tried drilling a tiny hole and putting a screw in there and pulling out with pliers but that didn't work. And I didn't wanna mess with it too much. Any ideas? Besides taking it to a dealer and getting charged a bundle. Any help is appreciated.

If I remember correctly, there is only one bolt holding the entire tube in place. You should be able to jack it up and remove the whole thing pretty easily. There is a single bolt on the front-most passenger side exhaust manifold.

Let me know how it goes.

There is another thread about this issue... I suggest doing a search. The forum had conclusive info on how to fix this issue.

    Good Luck!

Thanks guys. I always forget about using the search on the forums I go on. Went and checked around for parts and ended up going to the dealer. Got a new dipstick for 4 bucks and change. Gonna try getting the old one out and putting the new one in this weekend.

It's not gonna hurt to drive it around some with the old one stuck in there and a small hole in the top of it right? Didn't know if it would affect oil pressure or anything like that? Drove it about 10 miles total to the dealer and back and it didn't have any problems. And I only live 5 miles round trip to work.

OK I tried the screw trick and that sucker is jammed in there. I pulled as hard as I could, and I am no weakling, and it didn't budge. At first, the other day, when the handle broke off I tried glueing it back in place and pulling the whole dipstick out but that didn't work. I am guessing that some of the glue seeped down around the piece that is still stuck in there and basically now it's glued in the tube. I pulled as hard as I could and even had a pry bar getting leverage on the screw and was "tapping" it with a hammer to loosen it and still no luck. I didn't wanna force it too hard. If I was to remove that bolt that holds the tube in place what would I do then? Does the tube just slide out of the oil pan? I was under the car looking at it and it doesn't seem like there is anything else holding it in place besides that one bracket with the bolt on the manifold.

And then it just slides out of the oil pan at the bottom?

exactly. Anyone with headers has probably removed the dipstick tube from the oil pan during their install (including me). No worries, just make sure it's reinstalled properly before starting it up.
