New for 2007: MSD Ignition "Timing Twister"

    http://www.msdignition.com/2007/timingtwister.html

For us 5.7L guys, our part number is 86253. No 6.1L or V6 support.

I hopped on the phone and got with one of their techs. I wanted to ensure this will support the MDS 5.7, not the 'other' 5.7L Hemi. He got with his head tech, and came back with a definitive "Yes! This will support the MDS 5.7L Hemi".

As for ordering one? Well it wont be available until end of Feb and tech support had no idea what list price will be.

Keep your fingers crossed, especially you nitrous guys that this in fact does support our engines. I WILL be ordering one as soon as they are available and, assuming these work, I WILL be working with a pro to dial it in using a dyno.

    Hey mind your own forum

I actually asked about 6.1 support and the answer was no plans were in the works. Keep in mind, thats a tech I was talking to, so no idea how reliable product development info coming from him is.

I've now 'heard' via the grapevine pricing will be right around the $365 mark, and end of Fed is realistic, although there's a good chance we might see these sooner. Cool stuff!

sources say that this will not be able to advance timing on our vehicles without throwing the pcm into limp mode. You can retard timing however, but so does the smt-6. The smt-6 will also allow you to adjust air/fuel at 500 rpm increments.

You can vary the rpm increments for a/f. Mine is adjusted in 376 rpm increments.

I have an SMT6 to control timing already. I have a few customers that want this instead, just for nitrous retard.

Is this on the Ram truck 5.7 or on the LX 5.7 w/MDS? We have seen issues trying to dink with timing on the LX with the SMT-6, the vehicle is very touchy about timing changes.

Also, the SMT-6 will NOT allow you to adjust A/F Ratios when you are in closed loop operation. It will only adjust A/F Ratios in open loop (WOT operation).

Why? in closed loop, the computer reads the upstream O2 sensors and makes adjustments based on that data. You can adjust all you want, but the computer will always drive the A/F Ratio to 14.5 - 14.7 unless you play with the O2 data stream. The SMT-6 just does not have the capabilities to do this.

In looking at the MSD information, the applications list it for the Dodge 5.7 Hemi, but the text says Chrysler 5.7 Hemi. I bet this unit is based on the truck engine, and it is already known that the trucks look at timing differently than the LX engine. Make sure you really pin down MSD before ordering this to make sure. I would ask them if they have down testing on a 5.7 Hemi in the LX line. If not, be wary trying it out. One good tip off would be to get the wiring information to see where they are tying into on the PCM and compare that to the Service manual information to make sure they match up.
