My car just got a new PCM, what needs to adapt?

    Whats up guys,

My car just got a brand new PCM put in an hour ago and I was wondering how long it takes to adapt? I have a 170-stat and the car is running alot hotter then before and the engine temp is not cooling off no where near as quickly in evic when cruising, I called the tech and he said its because its still learning everything, does that sound right?

On the hwy, I usually get to 177 engine temp, today on the way home from picking the car up with the new PCM I didnt get below 194 (and its cooler today then usual)

How long will the initial learning process be on this brand new PCM?

The first 20 min after picking the car up, it didint run too good.......after I parked it for lunch, the 2nd half of the drive home it seemed to perform much better........Im hoping it even gets a little better

    Thanks

    50-100 miles or so.
you want to drive it hard
you want to drive it soft
you want to drive it with it in D
    you want to drive it with in in 1, 2 , 3 , 4 ,5
you want to spend time in ALL the rpm ranges in each gear.

basically you just wanna put it in all different situations, the more you do this, the more it learns about daily driving.

And you don't want to drive it WOT because it learns nothing at WOT. Drive it hard, just don't go all the way. Then it can stay in closed loop and update the adaptives.

since the install of the new PCM, the cars been running real hot, like my 170 t-stat isnt there! Prior to bringing it in today for the new PCM, on a hot day (90 degrees plus) the engine temp would drop in increments of two when crusing down do 181-185. On days when it was in the 80s out, the engine temp would get down to 177 and stay there when crusing.

After getting the new PCM in, the car is staying much hotter.....today the engine temp wouldnt get below 195 on the hwy, and it took awhile to get there.....I just took the car out now in the rain, 77 degrees out, and the engine temp at best got to 186.........at red lights it went up rather quickly, up to 217 degrees in the rain and 77 degrees out! Something is not right!

    Thoughts?

    check your fans dude.
sounds like what happened to my car. i broke a plastic fan blade, it got caught and burnt a motor and my car overheated....

just a thought. but 217 degrees isnt bad. anything over235 is bad.

without a preadtor your fans arent coming on til 200 anyway. idk man.

I dont know when the low speed fan comes on, but I had the car running and the high speed fan came on the same time as it always did (around 220 degrees), atleast thats when I always hear the fans when the car is on and im outside of it working on something
