    Motor Trend Test 300C!

Motor Trend did not squeeze the same "great" number FROM the 300C Hemi. But they are still great numbers

    0 - 60mph: 5.8 seconds
    1/4 mile: 14.27 seconds @ 98.56mph
    top speed: 126mph (governor limited)
    60 - 0mph: 122ft

They (MT) committed that the car should have been named 300N! Why, there was no 300L before the 300M or a 300K before that! :D

    Speed limited to 126mph too.

Seems like the 0-60 numbers are all over the map?

    Motor Trend 5.8
    Car & Driver 5.3
    Automobile 6.1

Of course there are so many factors involve in measuring speeds.

    Acceleration Tests Different, But Similar

The tests differ, probably due to the tester, the weather, the road, and the car, but they are all the same in one important way - they SHOW the car is faster than what DCX advertises. What an excellent deal - the performance, size, and most of the fancy features (e.g. the exterior rear view mirrors which dim and dip down in reverse) of an S-500/S-600, 745, or LS430 for well under $40,000! In some ways the 300 and Magnum are even superior - the simplicity, reliability, low cost, and lower weight of a pushrod engine instead of a DOHC design, and parts will be far less expensive.

You'll love the pushrod engine. A deep discussion regarding the pushrod on the ClubGP forum and how everybody prefers it over the OHC.

In simple terms, the corvette, GM3800Supercharged engine and the Hemi, plus others, use the pushrod engine. Each has tons of torque. Honda, Toyota and the LH cars use the OHC. Which is better, well, drive the GM S/C, hemi or vette, then drive a 6 cyl Accord or Camry, then decide.

Normally I'd say OHC motors are a better design, but not in one case, that is the Hemi. The Hemi allows for opposed valves on a pushrod motor. The opposed valves is where the Hemi gets it's power. Most OHC or DOHC motors will get the opposed valves also, but they are more complicated and expensive to make. The Hemi is cheep to make so they can add the savings INTO other parts of the motor. There was a good article on the 5.7 Hemi in Popular Hot Rodding that described some of the other parts of the Hemi. Definately a sweet DOHC v-8 like the Northstar is a wonderful motor but it's tough to apply all of the simple old school hot rod parts to. It's also much more expensive to make then the 5.7 Hemi. I have heard even the Dodge OHC 4.7 motor (which is a great design too) is more expensive to make then the 5.7 even though they charge more for the 5.7 option on the Rams.

I have been much happier with pushrod engines in my cars.
I come FROM a GM background and their pushrods are sweet.
    I have a 4.3 V6 and a 3.8 V6 and they are both great motors.
And who can deny the LT1, LS1 and now the LS2 pushrods?
