    Mopar Filters at Wal-Mart

My local Wal-Mart has started carrying Mopar filters. I assume that this is the same filter that you can get at the dealer. They are selling for $4.59/ea.

This mopar one weighs 2x what the cheapie fram does that was next to it on the shelf. I was using Purorlator One, but now have switched. Best part is the Pacifica and Magnum take the same one.

Last time I checked (which admittedly was a few years ago) the Mopar filters were made by FRAM. Cut open an old one I took off my Shadow, same paper end caps, same plastic bypass valve. May have changed manufacturers since then, but considering almost all filters sold at Wal-Mart are FRAM I wouldn't bet on it.

So the mopar ones include the anti-drainback valve? That's the main reason I use Pure1, M1, or Fram XG filters

This one is definately not a FRAM. Like I said it was much heavier and looked nothing the same inside. The FRAM had a plastic screen inside, the Mopar was steel, and had a spring for the drain back valve. Also the gasket and drain back valve on the Mopar was Silicone, not rubber or plastic.

The holes on the Mopar were much larger, also.

Was at Wal-Mart the other day to pick up some oil for my next change, they only had 1 oil filter on the shelf, and the box was all beat up. Filter looked okay, but I passed on it.

I buy my oil at Wally World, but the filters they stock are, without exception, CRAP! There's a thread somehwere here where a guy bought up a bunch of different brands of oil filters and dissected them. He found the Frams to be the worst of the bunch, and stated that the Mopar filters were made by Fram (perhaps that's changed).

I got Purolator PureONE filters @ Advance Auto for $5.88. I figure I'm saving enough on the oil that there's no reason to buy a cheaper filter...

    Here's the link:

    http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oil...udy-mopar.html

    Pay attention to this statement:

    Conclusions

It should be clear that Mopar filters are really nothing special. Unless you are trying to have a perfect restoration and need that Mopar logo, there is no reason why you should be buying Mopar oil filters. Most of them seem to currently be Purolators or Champions, but that could change at any time.
