    MDS system question

    Hello, I'm new here.

Looks like I'm going to love it

    but to the question...

in my manual for the car it says that the MDS system has to be reset if I disconnect the battery.

    WHY?

or is this propaganda to get more money to the dealership?

Though it is mentioned in the manual, this 'reset' is not necessary. Our 'resident' Technicians have verified this. As far as I know, the only battery reconnect requirement is the auto power window calibration...

a very early TSB directed us to re-calibrate the MDS. this was done by several WOT runs followed by closed throttle coastdowns. that TSB was soon revised to remove this procedure because the system learned on it's own anyway and they were weary of having techs beating on customers cars.

MDS calibration procedure from original TSB can be found in post #2 in this thread.

I thought that you had to run the steering wheel lock to lock a couple of times as well after dropping the battery as well as do the windows thing...

Like FNKY said you don't HAVE to do it. It will come back on its own but it takes a while. Sometimes a few drive cycles. But if you do a couple WOT and closed throttle coast downs it does come back a lot sooner just as FNKY said. I have confirmed all of this with the MDS light.
