Magnum AWD R/T vs Charger R/T!
Alright folks, I had a very interesting experience the other day. I was driving to work down the expressway, which is a 65 mph zone. I drive a Magnum R/T AWD, Inferno Red. I'm coasting along and I notice up ahead an Inferno Red Charger merging onto the expressway. There is absolutely no traffic, and the expressway has a nice straight stretch of about 2 miles, and it's just him and me! I take the left lane as he merges, and notice he's got an R/T too!
Well, I got a bit excited given the situation at the possibility of pitting these 2 LXes against one another. It seems the other driver had a similar plan because he quickly accelerated and pulled alongside me. I looked at him, he grinned, and we both floored it.
Perhaps I just had a small head start, but I quickly gained almost a car length. His nose was right alongside my bumper. It was a pretty even drag up until about 90 mph, where he started to inch forward, obviously gaining on me. When we hit 120 or so, we both let off the gas pretty much simultaneously, as a car became visible maybe a quarter mile ahead on the right side of the road with its hazard lights on. At that point the Charger had his driver side window about even with my rear passenger side window. It was obvious that he had just a bit better high-end acceleration than I, and I'm not sure whether I can attribute my early lead to a quicker pedal mash or my AWD giving me a bit more traction.
He moved over behind me in the left lane as we decelerated to the speed limit and gave the fellow on the side of the road wide berth. I rolled down the window and gave the Charger a thumbs up, to which he flashed his lights.
Anyhow, it was an exciting experience, and was a friendly test of LX vs LX. It was also neat that we both have the exact same color and he had a nice dark tint that pretty much matched my own. The cars were virtually identical except for the chassis! I will also just state here that I'm definitely not advocating road racing, we both passed the posted speed limit by a significant amount, however it was clear weather, dry road, no traffic, and a straightaway, so the conditions were at least optimal.
Certainly, it was an awesome test of LX power! I know I was very pleased with my Magnum and I'm sure the Charger driver was happy to know he has a bit better pull at the top end. It's a thrill when two drivers come out of such an exchange happy with their cars!
