    Love my MDS

    I thought I'd share this...

My nephew was visiting us over the holiday weekend, he has a 3 year old RAM truck with the 5.7 HEMI, tells me he only gets 12mpg.

I tell him I usually average 17 -19 mpg. Most of my driving is highway.

Yesterday, on my way back to Chicago, I thought I'd check my actual hwy mpg. I filled up in La Crosse, WI. got on the hwy, re-set average mpg and set the cruise at about 68.

At a rest area 168 miles later, I check EVIC and this is what I see:

Wow...I was amazed. I know my "real" MPG is actually less due to the 255-50-18 tires, but still...I thought this was pretty amazing....

Me too! I will not buy an SRT until they add MDS to the 6.1! If they never do I'm more than happy with my MDS equipped 05 MAG R/T.

    Nice I'm not alone...

I have repetedly gotten 28.8 on trips from Eugene to Hood River. The last one just last week included pulling off for lunch and related stopping/starting as well as traffic through portland. These were without A/C to be honest. I've gotten 27.4 on long trips with A/C on all the time.

I keep the cruise at 64(.5 if I can) as I've read a lot about the MDS not working over 65, but even when I have been over 65 i still see 24.5+ without even trying.

    Yep, gotta love the MDS!

PS. Wow, didn't know the SRT didn't have MDS... YUK!! Hate to be filling that at $3.55/gal.

I think your nephew has a lead foot. I just got back from Canada where I delivered a load weighing over 10,000 lbs on a 2500 lb trailer with my hemi Ram 05 no mds and got over 14 mpg. I average 17mpg with the Ram empty. Ram is bad in stop an go cause it weighs 6000lbs, but off on the road it's pretty good. Bet your nephew would get lousy mileage in your car.

You guys are killing me while I'm stuck at 15! Then again, I'm not sure I could set my cc to 64 for that many miles without jumping out the window either!

Yes, my nephew is about 14 years younger than me, and I do think he has a lead foot. Most times I do as well!!

I did have the a/c off, and usually the only reason I usually go that slow (the speed limit) is when I need to talk on the phone....this particular day I had a conference call that I needed to get in on.

In any case though, I was really suprised at the 28.1 average MPG...I guess I never really paid that much attention to it before.

I checked it again just a few minutes ago, and it was down to 23.2...after driving around town a little today.

M-X: I love that graphic...I don't remember where I found it but I did actually have it as my pc wallpaper for a while...Thanks!

I never quite got that high, I think my record was around 26.5. The speed plays a HUGE role though... up to 70 mph you're easily over 25 mpg. Over 80, and you're hovering right around 20 mpg. Yep, the car's a brick :-)

    Speed is definitely the key.
I have a 470 mile trip I make regularly. My best mpg was 27.5. This was using the cruise and only set it less than 5mph over the speed limit. (70mph max but mostly 67-68).
The same trip using the cruise at least 7 mph over the speed limit I got 25.0mpg. ( All my MPG are calculated by gas receipts and odometer readings.
Without using cruise control and driving for best ETA (I can not admit to the speeds some times reached) I have averaged 23.5 a couple times.

    NOTE:
The EVIC was always within 0.5MPG of the true MPG. Some times higher sometimes lower. It is a lot more accurate than the one on my Buick GS.

That's Kwajalein at 8.43*N x 167.43*E. Google Earth shows a good pic. I never made it to Diego, but would have liked to.

This last week I took a class that was 40 miles each way away from my house. The highway part was 36 miles of it and I set my cruise (when I could) to about 78mph. So each day I spent 72 miles on the highway and 6 miles in some 40mph zones with lights. I averaged 19.5 mpg on the computer and 19.6 actually doing the math with the reciept. I agree that the computer is much closer than my Park Ave used to be as well. But I also think I need to find the anchor that is eating up my mpg.

i was using it to compare to the ram up by the top of this topic. my 300c though it differs depending on how aggressive i drive. i average between 19-23 mpg combined driving on highway and city. i averaged around 24-25 mpg on a trip from ft.hood texas to ft.sill oklahoma with less than 500 miles on the car. but now that it has 3000 miles on it and the first oil change has been performed using synthetic oil i am looking forward to my drive from here at ft.hood to my hometown in pennsylvania next month... i will update yall then to see what kind of changes i get...if any
