interesting bas light....dodge concedes
well, looks like i am keeping the car for now. i had one last bug to shake off it and make it perfect, and then my girlfriend was going to drive it for me if no one bought it.
but now the issue. it has baffled me for 10k miles and dodge has refunded my service money and said sorry, but no clue. so maybe someone here can help.
about 35k, the bas light popped on. i noticed no loss of power, no loss of any electrical system, and the antilock brakes and traction control still funtion properly. the light would come on and off from time to time, sometimes when i hit a bump, sometimes when i turned, sometimes going slowly over somthing at an angle. movement would make it turn on, and would make it turn off. and that seems to be the only constant.
i replaced the wiring plug in the column at the advise of fnkychkn, and to my delight, the airbag light went out, to my dismay however, the bas light did not. i then replaced the clockspring due to my inability to seat the column shroud right the first time, and still no luck.
so off to the dealer. the dealer hooked it up and it read multiple codes. he told me it was the scm. i told him i didnt think so, because the codes would clear themselves from time to time. however, he insisted, so i let them change it. they call me back to tell me car was done. i went down there, hopped in, and got halfway out the parking lot when "BING", and there it was again.
they hooked it back up, and it was throwing the same codes. they tell me the part was bad. now at this point, i am having serious doubts, due to the nature of the whole thing. but fine, i tell them to change it, and i'll be prepared to talk more with them when the next one fails.
which it does before i can even make it to the dealership to pick up the car. now at this point, i am getting miffed, due to the fact that it has been two weeks and no one seems to listen to what i am telling them. matters get worse when the service manager implies that my amp is the problem and "you shouldnt mess with the wiring on these things." not only do i tell him that the only thing hooked to the wiring is my clips on the speaker wires, power line from the batt and fuse for the power on, but that i reviewed the tsb dodge produced about how to install aftermarket equipment on the r/t's. i also brought up the point that i installed the stereo at 8k's and the car was fine for 27k after that.
i was then told that dodge had faxed them a measurement for the steering column, and that they were testing the airbag module.
today, i picked up the car, and was told sorry, everything checks out, and they have no idea how to fix the car. to apologize, they are going to refund my money for the scm that i had installed.
so now here i am. my guess, i have a bad wire and/or connection. tommorrow, i am going to start going over everything with a multimeter and a test light, starting at the fuse box and working forward until i have touched and probed every wire and connection in the car.
but if anyone has experienced this, i would love to know. i have searched and found many threads like it, but none that seem to be this.
anyway, thanks in advance if anyone can help.
later, jess
