Most of us would agree. Wider and shorter.

Everybody agrees that 225 are too narrow for this car. Wider tires would have increased the price of the car and since Chrysler wanted to price it as aggressively as possible (it's the only car under 30K with 340 HP on tap), every little bit helps so they compromised with a narrow tire, knowing perfectly well people would upgrade it as soon as they can, aso some people on this board have already done :D

actualy wider wouldn't have increased the price, they could have gone with the BFGoodrich 245/55 R18 tires, they are an exact match for the OD of the 225/60 R18's but a wider and much better overall tire, they have a speed rating approriate for the car (all of the US 300/mangums were limited down to 129 cause of the continentals) and they are almost $30 less a tire than the stock continentals.

true, but they really can't go that low, I mean you're talking $84 a tire for the BFGoodrich's, the continental's are $111, so even if they got some huge like 50% price brake which I really doubt you're still only talking $30 difference in favor of the continentals, that's chump change on a 30K car, and i'm sure they could have gotten somewhat of a price brake on the BFGoodrich too.

Another possible reason DCX went with 225 is to LIMIT cost of ownership of the car. A set of good quality 4 tires for this car in the 18 inches size does not come cheap compared with lower sizes. Some buyers do pay attention do these costs and may decide to choose another model because of this - although you would think if you are ready to buy a RT (the only one with 18 inches), you should be ready to pay the tires, but anyway... Wider tires are more expensive.
And most companies always leave some margin of customization for enthusiastic owners. Limiting tire size is a simple but efficient way to let owners be proud of enhancing their car through wider tires![]()

has everyone overlooked the fact that Continental and DCX are German based companies?? Don't you think there are political and business relationship concerns here more so than them giving a crap about tire cost to the customer, let alone future customization??

like I said though, they aren't, the two tire size options for the 18" rims that are the proper OD are 225/60 R18 and 245/55 R18, the wider tires are the cheaper of the two, even for buyers to replace, the 225/60's are $111 each at tirerack, the 245/55's are $84 each, the 245/55's are also much better tires FROM what i've heard FROM people who have swapped to them, plan on buying a set for mine in a few weeks.Originally Posted by Tzar007

Wider tires increase rolling resistance and decrease mileage.
Not that I give a rat's patootey about that, but it could be one reason.

Damn, you're right, I just checked Tirerack. It says though "Special Price" for the BF Goodrich, but still, it's a lot cheaper than the smaller Conti, and the speed rating and overall performance of the tire is better than the ContiOriginally Posted by shiltz

Go figure. Perhaps indeed the ESP system made by Conti explains why there are Conti tires on the car...a kind of deal between Conti and DCX...
One thing I notice is that you are quite limited in brand variety at these sizes...I hope more will become available.

Pricing doesn't really apply to factory production take an example of say the rear spoiler on the magnum not sure what the retail price is but in plant cost is $36.41 delivered FROM the US. IMO ESP was the inside track to Continental getting the stock rubber
I like to pass that's why I love this car
