    Question Hemi fuel efficiency?

I know this thread heading sounds like a double standard, but what are the best mods/tips that can be done to a 5.7L to make it as fuel efficient as possible for city driving? Thanks.

Thanks Fargo59... but being a newb, which headers, which intake, and what's a diablo?

Thanks Goofy... which make and P/N for the tstat?

Thanks Hemi39... yes I agree, a cam swap would be great. That's something I will consider next year.

Every time you get to a light that just turn it off and start up when it turns green. It's a pain, but I've tried it with my 6000 lb 4x4 QC Hemi Ram and it can make a heck of a difference on the EVIC, all the time spent idling stopped is 0 mpg.

EVIC is the E(something) Vehicle Information Center (computer?) if you have the buttons on the steering wheel, hold down both the compass (first) and the music note for 10-15 seconds and watch the dashboard...

More low-end torque to get the beast moving is your friend, every mod I've done has the *ability* to get me better mileage if I do my part. That's the hard part though.

Keep you foot off the gas and you'll get better mileage. A few weeks ago I decided to see what kind of mileage that I could get doing my normal town driving and keeping the car under 2k rpm. Normally I only get about 16.5 mpg driving around town but by keeping the rpms under 2k I managed to get 18.5 mpg. I don't personally don't think it was worth driving like a grandpa for a week to gain 2 mpg.

    A few other tips:

Make sure you have the proper tire pressure
    Change your oil regularly
Make sure you have a clean air filter
Remove all loose weight from the car

Might I suggest to you the following.

Go to T Hortons get TWO lx's(coffee for you non-Canadian readers) and get back on the forum and read.

Check out the garage, see where everyone's doing and how to get it done.
Check out the vendors and the comments left.
Check the for sale section, good finds and a good indicator of what's being dumped

Then read some more...dig man it's there if you thought of it, chance are it's here.

Then of course the local M&G's talk to the locals. A great bunch in the area that are happy to help.

Where in the Great White North are you from btw?

    MPG Mods

Thermostat. Easy to change. You want the Motorad 4128, 180 degree thermo that actually runs at 186, and won't throw codes on you. available at autozone. Special part number 4128 and it will come up as the only thermostat. Instructions on how to change with no mess are in the knowledge base.

Used Superchips tuner, acceptable if you're not going to do anything but bolt on engine mods, and bumps Highway MPG about 1.5 MPG with 91 octane flash, about 1/2 MPG city. You can also flash a 87 octane tune, allowing you to run the cheaper gas, but MPG will not go up on that tune.

    Diablo Sport tuner.
New or used, the newest operating flash runs on 91 fuel again, but kicks out 1-2 MPG highway, and can't hurt city. The newest flash also kicks 4 cyl mode in around town, much more often than stock.

Just keep your foot out of it.
Adaptive Craving Control-by Hal9000 modification strictly prohibited
FI IV.5, Solo cat backs, 180 thermo, Catch Can, DS tuner, SRT heads, headers and mids, Derale 32000BTU Tranny cooler with fan control, duel oil coolers, P/S cooler, Pedders Track II, coil overs, Hodgkiss sways, BWoody links, 20" Jacks N Five with Nitto Invo's, Custom brakes by TCE. Bling by BT.
    Just a grocery getter!

My best friend is the installation of the "mds on indicator light". Read about it here.

Installation of a MDS ON Indicator Light

Try to keep that little light on as much as you can. It is sure to help. Remember, when it is on, that means you are using the "4 cylinder mode" of the Hemi. It is really quite simple to install.
