    Question Getting code P0128

As we stated in previous threads about my FRI mod (see my sig below), we got no codes right away. As a matter of fact, it didn't show up until the 4th day. I cleared it Wed. afternoon, and it came back this morning on the way to work. I'm not sure if it makes any difference, but I believe it was when it got to operating temp (coolant-wise). I think it may have something to do with the thermostat. If so, why did it wait 4 days? How can I keep it from coming back and keep the 180 degree t-stat?

did ya read my thread on it?? if you get it you get it....it has to do with calcs the pcm does with ambient temp etc....even though others have no problems running the 180 tstat...yours may be getting stuck intermittantly...take it out and see if stuck or change the tstat and might clear the issue....let us know

I have the 170 RobertShaw. When my car is cold, I get it to operating temperature, the (using the EVIC display) goose the engine in 3rd for example, until the temp gets above about 181-183 for a couple of minutes. Sometimes if I am tired, and just driving lazily, I do not get the temp up, and get a CEL.

Just autostick it so it gets to temp faster.Once it hits 180* Throw it in drive.

I don't suppose coolant level would have any effect on it, would it? I guess the car is hot; I drove it for 25-30 minutes at 65-70. The level on the tank is about an inch above the "Cold" line (facing the engine). Seems like it would heat up faster if it was low.

So if I understand you guys; it's throwing the code because it doesn't think it's hot enough?

Yes, that is the cause of the code. As I stated above (and others did as well), put that sucker in autostick and force the temp above 180 after the intial warmup. No code after that.

My car seems to have a lot more power running with the cooler t-stat.

Oh, she's got plenty of power. Today I slowed down to 20 to cross a RR track and nailed it. With ESP off (no pushee button and light off), it accelerated and then broke the wheels loose for a bit. I had to let off as my driveway was imminently approaching. This was on dry pavement. I still haven't had the nerve to take ESP off.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Meister said that his car eventually "Learned"the new T-Stat with the adaptives as well.I don't know how true that is but I live where it gets really cold and I have never thrown a code,I run a 180* as well....Had it out yesterday and it was 9* when I went to work.

Mine did it several days ago when the temp got down to 30 degrees and it was icing. Had to pull fuse 11 to clear the CEL.

I've been getting this code running the 180 t-stat in this cold a$$ weather:

    my fix:

I took one of my GF's nylons, cut the foot area off, and wrapped it around my CAI filter, haven't gotten the code since, I'll remove it once it heats up again...

oh yeah, black nylon... so it doesn't look to bad...

If you guys are all getting it now and are just getting some mild cold and I never get it,Meisters theory may be correct.

OK, finally got around to reading your thread. It has been cold lately, but it wasn't cold the first time it happened. It was about 65 or better. The T-stat is brand new. Supposed to be a 180 degree.

    What's the stock one, 210?
