    Embarrassing burnout failure moment

I really have to stop making an ass of myself in public. Went to a buddy's housewarming party Saturday afternoon. Good people, good time. A few nice cars (and a lot of pickups, soccer-mom specials, etc) but the Magnum pretty much hogged all the guy talk (me beaming like proud papa all the while). Me and my wife are leaving and it's at the end of a cul-de-sac in a rural neighborhood so I decide it's the perfect time to spend 1,000 miles of Conti rubber in 10 seconds. Decide to leave the adoring fans something to talk about after we're gone (even completed the foolishness by tipping off a couple of people what I had planned). First I ran the throttle calibration like a good maniac should. Now I'm staging the friggin' thing like John Force, back it up to the end of the block, ESP off, autostick in 1, brake pedal down, rev to 4 grand, slip off the brake and it launches dead-straight like a scalded cat all the way to the end of the block and NEVER so much as CHIRPED the tires! I'm friggin' mortified!!!...lol. Listen I think it's great these things launch so clean but where did I go wrong? Just me (190 lbs) and my wife (130 lbs) and about 50 lbs of crap in the back. Cold tire pressure 31psi. I've seen so many neat burnout videos posted here, do you have to red-line it? Only 3,700 miles and no wear showing, are the tires too new? I'm going to have to eat so much s**t at the bar next weekend after golf. Although one guy did call my cell phone and said, "that sucker is fast!". Made me feel a little better. <Sigh>

Sounds like the kind of launch that would get you a good 1/4 mile time, saved some rubber also. You aint real fast with all that spinnin' anyway. I surely would not worry about it, you must have been trying too hard. My R/T lights up nicely without power braking, even while going 10+MPH. I am not a fan of power braking anyway, kinda like defeating the purpose of the accelerator, one pedal at a time for my R/T..

Your problem was you let off the brake.

You're supposed to hold the brake and press the gas down. After the tires start spinning and leaving lots of nice smoke, let the brake off and roll out of it. Never lift the gas to end a burnout.

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture, just get people to stop reading them.

I'm not sure what it is, but my Magnum seems unpredictable. It's always fast, but some days I swear it has a lot more power. Yesterday I was driving home in the rain and a little touch of the gas laid me back in my seat.

On a funny note, my wife and I were leaving my parents house the other day. She decided she was driving. She backs out onto the street. She was going very slowly because of some plants in the back. I see a car turn a corner and approach behind us and tell her to hurry up. She gives it some gas and gets no response (maybe it was still shifting into drive). So she gives it more gas and it shifts and the tires squeal. She was mortified and I was laughing my a$$ off. A plant tipped over in the back, but it was totally worth it. Then she was so startled, she almost came to a stop and slowly rolled out of town because she was so embarrassed.

The Magnums in general seem to be hit or miss for being able to do burn outs, or even spin the tires for some reason, like for example some people only get a chirp or not even that even with ESP off and auto stick in first, others can spin the tires at the drop of a hat, also depends on how well the engine was broken in, when I got mine ESP off, auto stick in 1st was nothing more than a chirp on a cool day, now ESP on, just set in full auto it will spin the tires no problems even in 90 deg+ weather, granted I do have a cat back exhaust and CAI on it, but it started being able to spin the tires before those, that's also with there being about an extra 100 pounds over the rear wheels from my sub box and amp.

^that is great, but your crazy. I would never let my girlfriend drive my Magnum...toooo much power for her...enless she really wanted to drive it...but she says she is scared of it! As for burnouts, I have nevr had a problem...only had a problem when throttle calibration went bad (hemi turned into powerless lawnmower)...the thing wouldnt even move! if the tires dont let loose while holding both down...ease off the brake enough to spin the tires but not to roll foward...once they are spinnin you wont have to hold the brake nearly as hard as you would to get them started...

my only problem is my burnouts are never long! I can light em up like crazy but once I start movin it zooms up to second and bam it's over! It'd be nice if the car didnt shift itself at high rpms when your in autostick mode...

With my charger, i had ESP on, and hit the petal about half way down, and the tires chirped abit. So later in our drive way ( we got a long driveway), which is paved, i stopped, turn ESP off, and just floor it, wheels were spinning for about 15ft, then they hooked up, I was happy.

I let the girlfriend drive it to help me push it out of the snow. I'm ready to push she touches the gas and the sucker JUST starts spinning like mad... I'm yelling and smacking the rear window, "SHUT IT DOWN!!! WHAT ARE YOU NUTS!?"

She comes out of the car all frazzled, "Holy crap" she says, "That was f'n f'd, my cavalier doesn't even do that" Apparently she hammered it, floored it... cause that's how she gets her car out.

My response, "Baby, you can't handle the V8" (Starsky and Hutch rip off)
