EGR tube - Benefits / negatives of it being deleted?

I see that Billet tech is making an EGR delete kit. I Hate that brass tube with the shiny foil like shroud around it, however, im not familiar with what the EGR is.

What benefits would there be by deleting the EGR tube completely besided appearance?

What negatives would there be to deleting it (cels, timing, knock, messed up A/F ratio, etc)?

    Thanks

exhaust gas... recirculation? reuse? i cant remember...

basically it is a little tube taht taps into your pass side cylinder head... at idle it opens up and has some of the exhaust gases from teh cylinder dumped back into the intake manifold.

    its an emissions thing.

some dont like it because it protrudes into the intake manifold causing turbulence
some dont like it because they have an after market intake and when EGRY kicks in you can hear a very annoying pinging sound echoing out of the intake off the egr tube (other therads showing trimming the tube inside the manifold to help with this pinging...)
some dont like it because they believe it hinders performance by having soem exhaust gas in the intake upon going into the throttle (it is not operating at WOT.. and much lower.. not sure of exact operating ranges...)
and some thing its just plain ugly

you need a predator to disable the EGR system
then you need the billet tech (i guess?) or some other home made fashion of a "block off plate" to cover up the holy into the intake manifold....
not sure what you have to do at the header/head on the passenger side... maybe thsi is part of the block off system?

i just disabled my egr with teh predator and called it a day.

yea most people get rid of EGR because of the ticking and because of the way it looks. No real pros IMO. Just delete it. BT is making a kit for this?

FYI - you don't *need* the billet tech to disable it. The Predator keeps it from ever functioning... leaving you with dead weight. That's where the BT kit would come in. But you can't run the BT without disabling the system via Predator, or the car would flip out.

Disadvantage would be emissions - basically, you might (probably) fail an inspection or emissions test.

Slight thread jack, but does disabling the EGR in the PRED also turn off the MDS?

no.. disabling EGR is seperate from disabling MDS.

EGR *CAN* give you better MPG. the presence of exhaust gas in the combustion chamber allows for more timing to be run when at part throttle cruise. It also reduces pumping loss... (tho not significantly in my opinion).

I have searched and searched and can not find a plate or plug or anything aside from making my own way of plugging the whole on the 5.7 intake. i have a mopar egr plate for the head. I would like something that is fairly clean fitting and cheap instead of making something. any ideas?

well I have heard of getting a 7/8 drain plug for the manifold portion and just tracing an aluminum plate for the egr valve side, but hopefully BT will come up with something that isnt as ugly as the drain plugs out there and is relatively cheap

i tryed several different sizes of freeze plug to tap in but even when i found one that fit it sucked air around it. i thought about making a plate because it has a place where you cold put a screw to hold it in but you would just have to make a way for the plate to seal.

The plate would probably seal pretty well with a thin bit of RTV on it.

EGR is an emissions thing. And as a car enthusist it is your duty to hate EVERYTHING having to do with emissions.

EGR dumps dirty already used air into your intake stream.....so yes, deleting it is a good thing. No you will not see a hp gain from it.
