    Dead 05 5.7 RT 31,000 miles

My local dealer have always worked with me, the last thing they did was install my JBA headers under warranty. just paid 83.00 fro the work. This is were it gets strange. after they installed the headers and i installed the Hammer i noticed a knock in the motor. i took the car back and it turns out the motor toast. i should be getting a new block but they dont want to install the headers back on. claim's the lack of back presure cuased the problem. i have sevral questions. 1. is this possible. 2. what mods should i do to the motor now thats the motor is out. i was thinking about a cam and converter. i can get parts from them a cost. they gave me a price for the mopar converter and perf cam. are they worth the money or should i go another route. mods are full jba, hammer, super chip programer. thanks for the help.

I doubt if the headers caused any problem...........................

The headers won't fry an engine.... I'd question letting them touch it any more if that's their claim.

I've had Dynatec LT's and high flow cats on for 140,000 miles or so, of course I beat hell out of my car, nitrous, lots of towing, drag racing every weekend!! I would want to know what happened to your motor, is the dealer gonna autopsy it? Almost no 5.7 hemis have broken without help except for a few early hemi Ram's with bad valve springs. BTW my dealer quoted me $359 for the 2800 rpm tq converter. What does your guy say? Next question for him, WTF would Mopar sell headers if they were gonna hurt your motor?? Sorry , but he's a moron. One thing that can damage a motor is bad gas. I had bad gas damage the valves in a 3L Ford motor once, it can happen.

get a diffrent cam.. and a diffrent converter.. but if they will only install it under warrenty with the mopar parts i would go for it, try to get a set of head sout of the deal too..

also i wonder what they did to screw the install up to make hte motor blow..

Ditto..., further I would dyno the new engine before any mods or installation are done to prove to yourself it is buttoned up properly, this will also give you a baseline for moving forward if you are going to do mods.

    Something seems a little off?

Sounds like a good time to install some other goodies though!

hope they're not tearing your engine apart for something that could be a by-product of your air hammer. To the dealer for Nasty spark knock!!

Did they verify what was actually causing the knock? Really doubt it would be the headers. But curious as to what actually failed?
