    Daytona intake or aftermarket cai

I can get filter box and ducts from a Daytona for cheap. Still i don't want to spend my money on stuff that are worthless. From what i understand and pics i've seen Daytona and SRT cars have the same unit. Should i wait and get a CAI from K&N or Mopar? I know the best one clamed here is the AirHammer.

Weigh your options, your probably not going to pick up much gains with any of the open type filter assemblies. My car came stock with the Daytona intake and, yes, I replaced mine, but it was mostly for looks/sound.
I feel they are all overpriced, and while be it, the Airhammer is very nice, with proven gains[with a different(larger) filter than what you would get], I also feel it is overpriced.
A bit of stainless, a filter, and a few clamps dont justify $400 to me, but to each his own.
Same as all the other ones....but just like any of the aftermarket products available, people will pay....me included

Everyone has an opinion and here's mine, that's what this forum is cool about, it's opinions, not flame wars. To answer your question truthfully, you have to ask yourself some questions.

What do want to 'get' out of your updates/upgrades/mods? Are you after the ultimate street terror at the stoplights? Do you want to rule the 1/4 mile? Abuse your neighbor/friend's car? Just want more noise?

It's all about flow, you put air in, squash it some, light it on fire and take it out. If you are about creating the best 'flow' at this point, you'll need two things, input and output. The AirHammer may seem expensive for what the percieved gains are, but there are gains. It sounds cool as hell, looks cooler than anything else, has some real thought behind it and just plain works. Buy the best first and then you won't kick yourself for buying a few of the others before getting it right.

But I'd go for the high-flow cats like HHP sold me first. Set the foundation up for the future mods you'll be wanting to do first - THEN start moddin' the hell out of it. Wax On, Wax Off. Breatha In, Breatha Out. The cats change the sound nicely (I'd love to hear a set with stock pipes) and they make some horses.

You probably have figured out what intake setup I run now, but you also don't know how many I've tried before...

Save your bucks, get the AirHammer, you won't be disappointed.

    Mike

Just like with the Exhaust question..ask 10 people and you will probably get 10 answers...or more lol. I say do you research...all of the CAI's do provide some gains over stock, and sound cool lol. I have the Airaid on my SRT and I love it. It comes down to what you are looking to spend, as well as aesthetics,, in addition to performance. Just an FYI we are a new supporting vendor here so feel free to check us out... we carry most of the popular CAI's for the LX rides ( Mopar, Airaid, AEM, & K&N)

Thanks for all replies. Yeah i should have pointed more about what my plans are.
I have Superchip flashpaq. This is what started me to want more out of the mag.
I got, in my basement, JBA mid pipes and cat back that i will install as soon as wheater get warmer, i mean a lot warmer. I'm saving the money for JBA coated headers. So this is for exhaust plans.
I don't plan to be a steet terror but want to gain some sound and most important power.
I'm leasing the car but plans are for buying it at the end.

The reason i'm asking about the Daytona piece is there's a cat back and intake for sell $125 neg and it's local. I don't need the cat back but i've read that this intake is better than my the stock 5.7
I then could later upgrade it to Airhammer.

I run a stock daytona box with K&N filter and ran about the same numbers at the dyno as those with CAI. So it looks like the Daytona box flows well.

With flashpaq, magnaflow catback and K&N dropin my Daytona put down a highest of 296 hp and 330 tq. with a avg of 294 hp and 329 tq over the 3 pulls done. I would go with the box. The better power comes with highflow cats or longtubes. The exhuast appears to be holding back some power. RT nomad put down 306 hp and 345 tq if i remeber right and he has ram air hood, longtubes, catback and hypertech tuner. So it is very close to those running longrubes, so that will be my next mod before I would think of a CAI until they prove better. The long tubes produced about 10hp and 10-15 tq to the wheels. Also the longtubes produce a flater and longer power curve. Show a increase along the entire rpm range and not just peak.

good luck with your choice, Heith

Anything other than the AirHammer, is inferior in design, performance, and return policy.
