    Coil Packs on Chargers

The chargers do not have the spark plug wire crisscrossing the intake. There coil packs cover both sparkplugs for each cylinder. And they either have a plastic cover over the valve covers or the valve cover is plastic.
It looks a lot cleaner under the hood.

Has anyone come across any information on this set up and what may be involved with the swap?
I fear the wiring harness my be different.

It appears this is an across the board improvement for the 2006 model year HEMI engines.

at first i thought it was a change to the wastegate system, but now i think they dumped the wastegat altogether for two individual coils in each pack. but i do wonder if its possible.

even if it can be changed, just remember to keep your old stuff around. 20 years form now....

Yup that is direct coil ignition. Nothing new there unfortunately but it is new for the Hemi. The benefit is (if DCX has it running this way) that you can control each individual coil and either advance or retard the timing for each cylinder. Pretty slick stuff and complicated to program. When are we gonna see VVT or Solenoid Actuated Lifters without the use of a camshaft on a Hemi....now that would be killer.

Company called Auran tried solenoid actuated valves 5 years ago, Technology exists still but not bulletproof nor cost effective.

Funny, the 3.5 V6 already had these. Not the dual coils of course, but the lack of traditional spark plug wires.

If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying? If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?

Has anyone seen/gotten an updated service manual for the 2006 LXs? It should detail the changes to the engine bay if you compare it to the 2005 edition of the manual.

I'd bet if we ordered coils from a 2006 it would be a plug and play operation... I hate spark plug wires, one more thing to fail.

Not sure. It might require a different harness.

i think it very well may. with the wastegate, they need one signal wire with a switcher in the coil pack. with the direct coils, they would need two different signal wires.

at least most likely. can we get a close up of the wire plug into the new coil packs?
