    Careful of Houston PD

My wife was in the Galleria area yesterday to meet with a customer. As she was driving east on Westeimer at 45mph......a cop does a quick u-turn and speeds up to catch her..........he follows her for 3 blocks then turns his lights on......

My wife then craps her britches and proceeds to pull over INTO a business parking lot. The cop walks up quickly to her now lowered window. My wife asks what the problem was and the cop then says,"Nothing mame............may I please take a look at your car....this thing is wonderful!"

She then shows him the rest of the car........opens all the doors.....the hood and such.

Later that day.....north of downtown, going to another appointment, my wife pulls INTO a Diamond Shamrock to get a soda before her next meeting. She pulls right next to another HPD car in the parking lot. Standing there against the glass are 2 officers talking to 2 HFD paramedics..........the cop asks, "Is that your car?"......she laughs and says......"yes......why?"........"The cop says.......wow.....thats niiiiice."........One of the medics elbows him and says....."Dude....that ones got a Hemi......"

DC doesn't need to spend a dime filming goofy commercials........they just need to ride one day with my ol lady!

All true stories.......and all in a days work!

Although it's always flattering to get complimented on your car, I always wonder how much is it ethical or legal for police officers to just intercept people like this to look at their cars ...they just need to go to the nearest dealer for this

Ah well, at least it's still better than getting intercepted for a speeding ticket :D

If this EVER happens to anyone, get the officer's name and badge number. Be polite at that time but at the first opportunity call the PD headquarters, ask for Internal Affairs, ask the if this is condoned practice (which it isn't) and when they say no, report the jerk.

As the son of a now retired career officer I find this absurd and a willful abuse of power.

I had an HPD officer tell me he needed to use mine for an emergency. He was joking but it scared the crap out of me for just a second. I was at a McDonald's on Washington.

As a retired Canadian police officer, I can tell you a police officer does not have the right to pull anyone over so that they can look at a car and I don't care what side of the border he is on. If a police officer wants to look at your car while you are stopped, say at a mall etc. or doughnut shop, then feel flattered and give them the tour. It happened to me yesterday although I happened to know the guys. I even offered to race them but they kindly declined, well maybe not kindly!!!!!

I was parked near a police car in a lot, when I returned the two officers were ogling my ride. These cars will attract attention for some time to come so get used to it.
I also agree that using your position to get a look at your ride is a definate no-no, I don't think I'd be polite if I was pulled over with sirend for a peek, My step father was a Toronto cop for 17 years being a cop is tough but ...
