    Cam install

Those who have installed a cam in their cars, what is the going rate for the install? What's the difference between the cam from Frank's Racing and the Stage 1 from HHP? I'm still learning here, so much info to try and absorb

He's REAL REAL REAL REAL far.......................as in WEST COAST. He'd be closer to Alaska actually.

    Difference?

Alot of difference..............they are completely different.

I'd also add, "Which Frank Racing cam?" There are quite a few........

If you are looking for a cam only, the Sidewinder is your ticket...........you'll need to add springs because the stockers are just too weak we've found.

If you are taking your stock heads off, changing springs, and dropping in a cam, expect to pay $800 - $1200 USD. This is a PERFECT time to add headers.................it doesn't take any more time or add to any labor.

You'll also need to add a SuperChips and change to the 91 tune w/ our cam for BEST results.............

With a FULL exhaust, SuperChips, SIdewinder (FRI), and springs, the typical car goes from running 14.5's to running 13.3's

OK, I have seen where people pull the heads and don't pull the heads? When does it warrant pulling the heads?

I am running 13.7's with everything listed except for cam (and springs), so it looks to be worth .3 or .4 - not bad.....

to change springs................pull the heads................trust me

to change the cam.................heads can stay on..........

but having done this for some time now, you need springs.

BIGDAVE made something like 45 rwhp with cam / springs on the stock head..............HEMI~C~ didn't do back to back dynos, but received similar results with a cam / spring install only.

    I think .3 - .4 seconds is reasonable..............

I also failed to mention that our customers are reporting BETTER gas milage..............go figure.

What does a set of ported heads add to the equation? I'm going to be doing the cam soon, and was thinking that I might as well piss all my retirement, err I mean beer money, at once.

The high flow cats I just put on have caused a serious case of modinitis!

Why the reasoning on pulling the heads to do the springs? Are the retainers a pain? I have been contemplating putting in your sidewinder cam with the 6.1 springs. I figured do the old put compressed air into the cyclinder via the spark plug hole and pull the springs and toss in the new ones (I will be doing the install myself).

i think because it takes less time...
ive done them both ways..its really up to you. sometimes its a bear to get the spring on and off the head. the exhaust spring is at such an angle it is just plain hard to reach...pop a valve cover off and you will see....

trust the judgement..if you want to hear it from some one who has done more that his share, ask hemi31...

Steve covered the pricing...........there are options, but you get the idea.

Heads allow the cam to do its job better..................just like headers and hiflo cats.................but its already proven that the cam ALONE (with springs) is still worth a HUGE gain.

Heads, cam and full exhaust is worth even more..................how much? A couple of guys are in the 380+ rwhp and 400+ trq.........

The worst springs will be the exhaust springs..................bad bad angle, very tight working area, and dropping a small part in there could get really bad!

Pulling the head is just not a bad process in comparo..........

That's what I was after... ...not necessarily the pricing (sorry for any confusion there).

    Thanks guys!
