    Broken rear?

    Hello all,

Well, I posted here a while ago about maybe getting myself a hemi LX. Since then I've purchased a GTO and I love it to death, but with my wife and I having a baby on the way I may be looking again at these cars. I drove a 300c yesterday and I was impressed.

Anyway, I remember from last racing season that there was a 300c SRT8 at the track that broke something in the rearend (axle shaft maybe? Can't remember...). It was stock except for Nitto DRs. How many other LXs on here have had similar issues? What's the fix for the weak part(s) in the rear? I don't want to buy an LX if I can't go to the track with DRs on and not worry about breaking something all the time.

If I get one, I'd probably do some bolt ons + a 100 shot or so at the track.

    Any help/advice would be great.

    Thanks,
    Kris

no one has broken an axle with drag radials only.............in fact, the only guys breaking stuff have been on 100+ shots of dope with stickies on SRT8's and still then its only been a few.

CORRECTION: There was also a 426 stroker that also broke...........

Bottom line is; the breaks are few and far between..............a progressive nitrous controller would really help take the shock out of the motor and axles IMO.

Hmm. Interesting. Maybe the one at the track got into some bad freak wheelhop or something. This is encouraging. Thanks.

It is on every other IRS vehicle I know of....03/04 Cobras, my old C5, GTOs, etc. Actually its more prevalent in IRS cars than solid axles.

That is a correct statement there. Very easy way to snap a half shaft.

99 cobras were very famous for breaking axles due to wheel hop.

300c SRT8 would be my choice over a GTO and I have owned several Goat's.

Quaife, N2O, and well heated 305/45-18 Nitto's was common on the 2 track cars. Need4speed was spraying 150 I think, I was 100 but had a new 3000 stall converter. So not exactly the same setups, but the same result.

I think the 426 was on the street on street tires if I remember right.

We didn't do burnouts or launch on N2O.

The Quaife could be part of the issue, as other haven't broke without it with DR's and N2O.

Yeah, that's what I'd love to get, but I can't afford one.
