Question Bouncing off rev limiter in 3rd gear/SC

I think I may have a problem with my SuperChips Tuner, every now and then - I seem to bounce off the rev limiter in 2nd gear. It will not shift into 3rd gear unless I lift off of the gas pedal. I seem to recall reading about someone else having this problem, so what is the cure?????

I usuall don't floor it all that often, so I am not sure that this problem happens all the time. So far it has happened to me about 3 times, mainly when I am passing someone. The car starts to lose power (hits the rev limiter @ 6,000 RPM) and will not shift into 4th gear until I let up on the gas pedal, then it shifts and keeps on accelerating.

Do I need to update my Flashpaq? Is there an update for this problem?

Seems it happens in 3rd gear at about 80 MPH.

This is for a 3-4 shift?? You also mentioned that it happens @ 80MPH, this would be more like a 2-3 shift. 3rd gear is good for like 120MPH.

In any case, you should not be bouncing the rev limiter, unless you have paddle hold enabled. If not, you might want to check with SC.

Yes, it is the 2-3 shift, that is what I meant.

It shifts fine in all the other gears, but sometimes (not always) hits the rev limiter on the 2-3 shift.

Mine did this also with raised shift points. I set it back to standard shift points and it was fine. I recently updated to the latest SC update, and installed again with raised shift points. I keep forgetting to test it though, so I don't know if it's fixed the problem (like you, I don't get there too often... but it's very annoying when I do).

Mine used to do that with the raised shift points until I got my TCM updated, now it goes up to 6200 and shifts well, no more problems.

I have this happen as well, but only if the throttle position is in the right position. Then I can either let off or floor it and it will shift. I don't know off hand what version of software I have on my flashpaq, but if I remember when I get home tonight, I'll see which version it is and if there are any updates available.

Well I tied to download the 2 updates for my Flashpaq, was unable to do so. Got to the point where it said to click OK when the USB cable was hooked up to my Flashpaq, it just sat there. I clicked and I clicked, it was a no go.

Either my USB cable is bad, which I doubt, as my computer did recognize that a new piece of equipment was hooked up.

Or there is a problem with my Flashpaq, it did NOT light up when it was hooked up to the USB cable.

I will have to try connecting my Flashpaq up to the car and see if it lights up.

Stay Tuned................as they always say, LOL

This is a common problem w/ the SC in raised shift point mode. This issue has been around for a long time and there is no fix for it. I also had my TCM re-flashed at the dealer but the problem still persists. It happens at partial throttle (not WOT), usually between 50-70% throttle. It's really obvious in the graphs below which I took w/ the Advanced Data Logging.

Here's a launch through 3rd gear using standard shift points at ~60% throttle - no issues:

Here's a launch through 3rd gear using raised shift points @ ~60% throttle. Look how the throttle is pulled prior to the 1-2 shift and 2-3 shift. The 'bouncing' is the worst in the 2-3 shift.

I've been trying to get the SC guys to work on this for a very long time now w/ no resolution in sight. All I've been asking them to do is bring the shift point down to 5850-5900 RPM and I think the problem will be solved. They won't do anything about it...

Do I understand it right that you were able to get all these charts with the SuperChips Tuner for the 5.7? I haven't got one yet, but I'm thinking seriously of it. If it actually has this much diagnostic info, that would really be a big push for me since I am trying to get my mpg up, yet I don't know exactly where my problem lies.

Also....where did you come up with this: Nav In-Motion Disable? That would also interest me.

I got all the raw data from the Superchips Advanced Data Logger and then plotted it in Excel. It works great for stuff like this and I use it a ton. The only drawbacks are that you can only log (4) parameters at one time and it only stores (1) run at a time.

A really cool thing for you is if you're monitoring Calc Engine Load, the MDS system is on when this parameter is under 42 and turns off when over 42. So if you're looking to get your mpg up, just monitor that parameter and try to keep it under 42 as much as possible!

Is this part of the Superchips Tuner or a separate appliance?

That chart looks like it could shed light on a ton of things!

"Nav-in-motion" diable? How is that accomplished?

    Thanks!

My taurus does that from 1st to 2nd, where you have to let off the gas to shift it.
