    Another Magnum related incident...

hi long time member, first time poster.

i was watching the local 6 o'clock news only to hear that an accident in Long Island killed a couple of teenagers in a honda by a drunk driver....in a hemi equipped magnum. :( there is nothing worse than combining a powerful and very heavy vehicle with a drunk driver, and it all happened at about 1 a.m. which you'd think would put some sense INTO a person about driving that late and in their condition. i just hope that this example makes people actually think about something before actually doing it, because it could lead up to a deadly result.

thats it for now...hopefully we wont have to see this again...no matter what kind of vehicle they're driving

Here is a link to the article. The article mentions that the drunk driver was driving a pickup, but watch the video and it shows his Magnum.

    Horrible:

    I'm with ya! Fry 'em!

A drunk driver pulled out in front of me back in 1986 and the end result was a 70mph collision that totalled my Pontiac Fiero. His Oldsmobile 98 was messed up pretty good, too. By some miracle, I was completely uninjured even though I wasn't wearing my seatbelt (I was 18 yrs old and bullet proof, ya know). I gripped the wheel on both sides with every ounce of strength I had and locked my elbows right at impact. My shoulders were sore as hell the next day, but otherwise I was fine.

In one of those aint-it-weird-what-goes-through-your-mind-when-you're-about-to-die moments, I remember bouncing off the Oldsmobile and spinning INTO the guard rail right after the initial impact had blown in the drivers side window and I remember very vividly thinking, "Damn, I hope this glass doesn't get INTO my drawers and cut up my dick."

The investigator at the accident scene later told me that had the impact been more square instead of at a 45 degree angle, I would have had my lower legs and feet crushed and would almost certainly have lost my grip on the wheel and slamed my head INTO it. That scared the hell out of me and I've never not worn a seat belt ever since.

Fry 'em comments aside, I would love to see a nationwide effort towards mandatory outfitting of drunken driver's cars with those breathalyzers that won't let the car start unless you pass a breath test.

I believe Audi is coming out with a breathalyzer on the key fob that won't engage the key unless you are sober. I think it was Audi, I just saw the SHOW a few weeks ago.

That reminds me of when I crashed my Dad's Mercedes S-Class back when I just got my license back in '86.... I was going back FROM a party (not drunk) about midnight when I saw something run INTO the road in front of me. I couldn't tell what it was, but made a quick turn to avoid it, and the car began to slide off the road at 45 mph... At this point I remember thinking, "Man, I'm in soooooo much trouble," and, "What the hell was that that ran in front of me!?!" After sliding off the road, the Benz went airborn for about 15 feet and came to rest at a big oak tree... I then found that I was actually sitting in the back seat, but still in the front seat. The force of the impact pushed the dash and wheel rearward, but I was still holding on. Amazingly, I was okay, other then a cut on my arm FROM broken glass.

And my dad was mad, but it just gave him an excuse to get a newer car! :D
