    Air Conditioning Quit/Now it's back??

Driving on the freeway, bumper to bumper (hey, I live in LA, CA), and the AC stops blowing cold air. Then, later that night, I go out for a short hop and it works fine, and it has been doing so for 2 days.

I have heard of a few peoples cars doing this. Usually happens just after a wide open throttle run not during bumper to bumper. If it was really hot outside it may have been that the ac just couldn't keep up without some good airflow across the condenser.

My RT did this the first week I got it. It only happened once and hasn't happened since. If it doesn't happen anymore I wouldn't sweat it.

It's happened to me twice now. The 2nd time I pulled off the road, shut off the engine, then restarted - it was back on.

Is this happening with the duel climate A/Cs only? This is what I have.

when you rev the engine the ecu turns off the ac compressor, so there could be a bug where under certain conditions it does not re-enable it, that's why turning off and on engine would fix problem. FROM a more HVAC oriented perspective, it is possible that when the rpm's exceed say 5000 the freon (R134a) in your system is building too much pressure and the pressure switch cuts off the AC but then doesn't reset until later on (too much later in this case)

Ok, I'm gonna try to link two problems that have been mentioned in the forums.

Yesterday, for the first time, my RT's EVIC showed the outside temp to be 51 degrees (actual temp near 80 degrees) for about 20 minutes. The display started reading correct temp eventually -- but while it showed a bogus reading, the climate control system (both with the AC on and off) blew warm air no matter what I did with the controls.

I'm thinking that the incorrect reading might be a software glitch (maybe that's been suggested before, I don't recall), and that the system thinks it's colder outside than it is, and that it doesn't tell the AC to chill when it should.

Just practicing troubleshooting without a license here. Whaddaya'll think?

My RT's software is dated 02/25/04. Don't remember the version.

    Ditto.

Annoyed the hell out of me.
Mainly because I can't duplicate it.
I was not racing at ALL.
Bumper-to-bumper in NYC when I noticed it.
To give you an idea of the traffic, I didn't bother pulling off the road to put it in park, turn the car off and restart it.
The whole trip (from the time I started the car) I couldn't have gone over 50 MPH or 3500 RPM.
Next time it happens, I hope it is during business hours and I can drive it right to the dealer without turning it off.
