I've actually been looking around for that number. I can only find 0-60 times which is 6.3 seconds (though many articles say they've got it to go quicker). 8)

Some where on the Allpar site they list 14.7 sec for the 1/4 mile. I think that is pretty conservative. Regular cab, short bed, Hemi Rams weighing almost 1000 pounds more run 14.7 to 15.0 sec 1/4 miles with the 17" truck tires. They have worse gearing in the transmission, no weight over the rear tires for traction, and much poorer areodynamics. Some people think the 2.82 rear gears in the R/T are going to kill it, but I was running the numbers based on tire size and transmission ratios compared to a Hemi Ram. I assumed shift points of under 5500 rpm and here is how it looks going up through the gears in the 1/4 mile...

    RT
1st gear: 0-46 mph is up to 5471 rpm then shift...
2nd gear: 46-75 mph goes FROM 3338 rpm to 5442 rpm
3rd gear: 75-117 mph goes form 3504 rpm to 5465 rpm

    RT AWD
    1st: 0-42 mph is 5428 rpm
    2nd: 42-69 goes FROM 3317 rpm to 5450 rpm
    3rd: 69-108 goes FROM 3509 rpm to 5492 rpm

    Hemi ram
    1st: 0-44 mph is 5450 rpm
    2nd: 44-79 goes FROM 3024 rpm to 5447 rpm
    3rd: 79-132 goes FROM 3262 rpm to 5450 rpm

The biggest difference here is that the 3rd gear in the Ram isn't going to pull near as hard as the 3rd gear in the magnum. The Ram is a 1:1 in 3rd while the Magnum is a 1:1.41in 3rd. Still the Magnum won't need to make a shift to 4th while making a 1/4 mile pass probably even if it's modified to run in the 12's (like with a turbo kit!). I think I'd perfer the gearing in the AWD, but maybe they will use the same rear axle making putting the AWD rear gearset in the RWD R/T a snap.

The more I look at these numbers makes me want to trade my Ram in. I think I'll wait a few years until my ram is 4 years old, and then trade it in on a 2 year old AWD R/T! No more buying new for me, and hopefully the historically better resale of a pickup will balance out the prices better. As it stands now there is probably a $10,000 difference between what my Ram is worth and what a AWD R/T will cost new (even after all the deals).

Did it have the 20" wheels? was it a regular cab? They will run all different times depending on conditions and exact configuration. But there are lots of stock Hemi Rams out there running under 15 sec 1/4 mile times. Heck, there is one with $100 in mods running 13.71!

A bit off topic, but...How fast do y'all think my '01 Dakota Regular Cab (4.7L, 4WD) could do the 1/4 mile?

Dakotas are sometimes all over the map. If yours was a 2wd with the manual transmission, and you drove it hard, it could probably put down a low 15 to 15 flat 1/4 mile. The automatic will cost probably .3-.4 putting it in the mid 15's, and then the 4x4 is going to cost a bit more again. If you can get it under 16 sec then that should be about normal for sea level and good air, a 15.5 sec would be about the best I would expect on that combo stock. (It will also depend on 3.55 or 3.92 gears). The very fastest stock Dakotas were the 98-2000 R/Ts and the best examples will run 14.5-14.8 stock, although there are plenty of cases where they run mid 15's too, depending on elevation, air, driver, etc.

Thanks for the info, to tell you the truth, I had almost no clue. I believe mine has the 3:55(??), but I'll CHECK my sticker sometime to be sure.

Oh, and I drive my truck hard...

What I ment by hard appiled to the manual tranny, some folks won't dump the clutch at high RPMs but that's what it takes to put down the best times. There is a traction limitation on a stock Dakota, but some of those guys get traction bars and drag radials or slicks, then they can take a pretty good hit. Sooner or later the driveshaft or axle will give instead!

I have not seen times on the RT but MOTOR TREND has a write-up on the 300C and it showed 14.27/98.56. Im sure the MAGNUM should do better (even though it weighs more).
BTW there is 3/4 of a page about the Magnum in the article also.

I took it to mean hard as in fast...I go through a set of tires a year (rear tires bald within 10 months)!!

Mr. Dodge, Why do you think the Mag will be faster??

    No technical posted reasons.
Dodge is the performance Division and I would think there may be a difference in gear ratios...................spring rate................weight distribution................OR SUMPTHIN!!!!
The Magnum LOOKS more aerodynamic and it also looks like there is less ground clearance WHICH EQUALS less wind resistance which equals quicker times.
    Maybe I am just hoping????!!!!!!!!

I think they both weight the same, and the tires, gearing, etc is all the same. They will both be equal on the average. The 14.27 is a great magazine starting point though! No doubt the owners will put them in the 13's with just a few simple tricks or with better weather or track conditions.

    Some Answers to some questions

This is what is reported to be reported in May issue of Car & Driver. That is really fast for the weight of this car:

    0 - 60mph: 5.3 seconds
    1/4 mile: 13.9 seconds @ 102mph
    top speed: 130mph (governor limited)
    70 - 0mph: 184ft
    roadholding: .77g
    C/D ovbeserved fuel economy: 17mpg

The Gear Ratio for the 5-Speed are the same for 300C and Magnum RT. Ground clearance is the same for 300C and Magnum RT at 5.6 inches. Will the Magnum be a tick slower because it weights more.

    Curb Weights:
    300C 4046 lbs
    Magnum RT 4142 lbs

    Drag Coefficient:
    300C - 0.350
    Magnum RT - 0.355

What are the tire ratings on the RT to be governed at 130 MPH? The TREP RT never had a limiter!
