Snow tires

Hello all,

Been a while since I posted.

Has anyone found a good set of snow tires to fit the 300 Limited?

I changed my All Seasons to the Goodyear Assurance ComforTred and love them. Now that we are expecting 11 feet of snow, ice and bad drivers in front of me over the next few months I do not want to do that old "slip and slide" again this winter.

Considering that I drive from Montreal to Toronto every second weekend to see my children I need to maintain blood circulation in my fingers this year. Last year I suffered inrepairable damage to my fingers from the white knuckled driving.

I am willing to change the rims to another sise if need be. Any recomendations out there?

I live in Sun Valley, Idaho so I wanted snow tires also. Northern Rider turned me on to the Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow. I have them in 235/60-18 and love them! They're much better in dry and wet than the original Conti's. I haven't had them in snow yet but reports are that they are great. I'm running 39psi front and 37psi in the rear. Good luck and enjoy!

Not sure what part of Toronto you get to, but I saw a 300 with a steel rim and Dunlop winter tire package at Bramalea Tire (Airport Road/Clark Blvd). (I was getting winter wheels for my SRT8.)

They are using a black steel wheel, which I assume is the police car rim that has been mentioned elsewhere in these forums.

You'll have lots of choice in a 17" winter tire. I have always preferred Blizzaks, but there is a lot of preference (in these forums) for the Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow. Unfortunately, the Pirelli's are in little or no supply in Canada, but you may get lucky in your size.

Blizzaks, Michelin, Pirelli or Dunlop, you'll have a superior tire for winter driving on the 401.

I picked up some Michelin PA2s from CostCo a few weeks ago for my Mazda Protege5, but they're not on the car yet. Bought early to get a $60 rebate. Price was about $100 below what I could find elsewhere. Rebate might return soon, it seems to come and go. Not sure how the PA2's stack up, but I had limited alternatives for the size I needed. In general I see far more very positive reviews of winter tires than negative ones. I suspect this is because any winter tire is far better than any all-season. It would be nice to hear from people who've had more than one tire on the same car. Tirerack of course has tests and reviews, and there might be some at epinions.com as well.

So, here is my update.

I have a friend that works for Goodyear and he has suggested the Dunlop Grandtrek SJ6 as the best tire to fit and run on my 300 RWD.

Any thoughts, feelings or feedback on these tires?

I tried searching for a review of the tire but there seems to be nothing even on Tirerack.com. They must be new.

My wife has the 300 Touring, and the stock tires are truly miserable in both dry and wet weather, much less in snow. The wear is awful as well. I've been searching high and low for a replacement, and finally decided that we need to get something in 225/60R17, instead of the stock 215/65R17--there's few choices in the original size. My son works at a Firestone, so we'll be able to get Blizzaks discounted in this alternate size ($200 a tire normally!!!!). We haven't ordered yet but will soon...the speedo will only be off by a single percent or so...

I put the Goodyear Assurance on as All Season and put about 20,000 kilometer so far ... NO wear and ride like a cloud. I highly reccomend them.

For snows I put on the Grandtreks today. We got about 5 inches of snow and they grip like sandpaper.

Both are highly reccomended.

I just picked up today some HanCook W300 Ice Bear 255/55 R18 from TireTrend.com up here in Canada.

There were a lot of good reviews on these, and they were very inexpensive. I got the whole package for $825 Can.

Got Cooper Discovery M&S 255/55R18's for the Maggie AWD. I have had these tires on my 4x4 trucks and the wear was incredible...avg about 70,000 km of wear or about 5 winter seasons with each set! The traction was incredible as well they were very solid at high speed turns, and a very aggressive winter tread (stiffer side wall). I would recommend them to anyone looking for a good set of winters. The tires ran me about $204 CDN/tire. To have installed mounted and balanced on the stocker AWD rims $950.00. To have a good winter tire on a highway in a winter blizzard priceless!
