Rosewood dash kit install with pics

I've been doing so many mods to the exterior that my interior has been feeling left out. Not today though. I finally decided to get a wood dash kit for the car. Since I have an SRT, I didn't have to worry about matching any wood from the factory. I've never liked the look of burl wood. I prefer seeing wood grain and I've always loved the look of rosewood so that's what I got.

    Here's the kit

I was determined to try and make this look as good as possible. I've seen too many kits that just didn't look right or the install was rushed. Some of the things that bothered me from other installs were the visible silver around the center bezel edges and vents and also the visible beige around the window switches.

    Like this

    And this

So the first thing I did was take the center bezel apart and paint the edges flat black. I also masked off the window switches and painted the edges around it black too. (Sorry, I don't have any pics of anything painted. After I uploaded the photos, I realized I never took any. Duh!)

    Masked for paint.

After letting everything dry, I cleaned and prepped the rest. The install itself went well and I didn't use all of the pieces. I'm still debating whether to use the big swatches across the dash of not.

    Finished

Looks good!!! And it looks way better with your paint job on the edges.

Also, I think the strip across the passenger side would look good. That side of the dash is kinda naked compared to the rest, ya know?

    Looks hot though!!!!

    Raymond,
Outstanding job with the install, paying special attention to all those details that others maybe didn't notice. Rosewood was a beautiful selection for your SRT.

Personally, I don't care for the extra pieces that go along the dash on the right side. IMO, It starts to add overkill which is unappealing to me. I can't wait to see it all in person at a future NorCal M & G.

Now, the only thing you need are some BT fixtures!

    Congrats

Looks Amazing! painting the edges black made a world of difference! I was looking at a whole lot of wood kits and wondering what it was that I didn't like...Then I saw what you pointed out and realized that was it. Great fix. Great wood choice. Just great.

    Congrats!

Looks great! I think the attention to detail paid off. I've been on the fence for a dash kit for quite some time... still not sure if I want to do it or not.

Ditto. but if I do get one, I would definitely follow his lead, and paint edges black first.

Nice look!!!! I discovered the same issues you had with the non covered edges. After I had assembled the kit. So it took me forever to slowly paint all the small areas to get your same results. But, looks awesome when you're done.

    wood

That is a beautiful job. I really like the rosewood. Taking your time to prepare things really paid off. I agree that I would leave the big piece on the dash passenger side off. or maybe cut it to a thinner piece than having it so wide. My 0.02?
