Remote Start Security

I just bought the 300c and love it. I ordered the remote start kit FROM the dealer but I am afraid that they are going to disable the security system because they asked to bring both keys. Is this necessary? Will the remote start disable the security system?

Normally when they ask for both keys it so they can program a new transponder for the rem start to work without a key in the ign. The computer requires all keys be present to program another transponder you should get both keys back. A properly installed remote start system will not disable your security system.

The remote start is installed but a few weird things are happening. The "Auto Headlights" do not work if the car was remote started. The rail sensor does not work immediately; it does work if MORE rain hits the car after driving. The headlights do not come on with remote key unlock.

Does anyone have any ideas on this? Is it software that can be reprogrammed or is something I have to live with?

Sounds like they still have a few bugs in the Chrysler remote start package. That possibility, along with the opportunity for getting much greater capability, is the reason I went the aftermarket route. Had a Viper 2-way responder system (model 791 ???) installed. Everything else works as before; auto headlights, rain sensor, etc. Plus, the ACTUAL range is better than the Chrysler one; the 2-way responder shows you on a small LCD screen if the car is locked/unlocked or engine running, etc; and the installed price is about the same - $499.

Hopefully, Chrysler will work out the bugs in your installation but, for anyone else looking at remote starts, I would seriously investigate the aftermarket options, also. If your Chrysler dealer tries to tell you the aftermarket remote starts will void your warranty, resist the urge to laugh in his face 'cause it ain't so. Chrysler would have to SHOW how the remote start directly caused some problem down the road. It's not in the same category as NOX, headers, etc.

Your right, but if your car where to be towed INTO a dealership with an odd ball problem (no start, electronics glitching) as a technician searching for the cause, if I where to come across an aftermarket system, and if I had any inkling whatsoever that that would be causing the problem, it will come off, no if ands or buts. The Mopar system is the way to go just to prevent this type of problem. We recently had a van FROM canada with a no start. No codes no nothing, but yet it had a remote start. Looking at this system, it had a key cut off and taped to the harness, wires poorly spliced, etc. This did not cause the no start, but it did come off because we had no other way of checking it, and it did not go back on.

Remember, these cars are smarter than any of you, believe it. Modules everywhere, monitoring everything. The smallest glitch will cause the whole system to crash. Why risk it!!

And no, I am not a salesman, just a technician looking out for you and your cars.

Had my MOPAR remote starter installed on Monday no rain on the north east coast yet but I agree that the Headlights do not work on Auto Setting. Seems the remote sets up the fog lights and side lights to be on but saves the headlight therefore have to turn them on manually for that run. Still beats getting INTO a cold car! DCX offer was for $399 install actually worked out at Parts $261.60 Labor 117.55 for a total of $379.15 + 22.75 NJ Tax at the dealership and seems well worth it with the 3/36 coverage.
