    Minor probs with the C

    Problem 1:
Our 300c has developed a bad odour. It started a few days ago & isn't getting better. It smells like a baby puked in the car the day before. (I have 5 kids, I know what that smells like.) We haven't spilled anything in the car, there's nothing in there rotting & it doesn't seem to be coming from the vents. Anyone else have this problem? Any Ideas?

    Problem 2.
The airbag light never goes off. We have had it to the dealer twice. First time they fixed it, it came back on the next day. The second time, they took all day to fix it & it stayed off for a few days. Now it stays on again. We are bringing it in again on Wed., But maybe someone can shed some light on this?

By the way, my Magnum blew the drivers speaker, but other than that, she is awesome.

airbag light is the connector to the clock spring, there is a TSB on it, the wires are too short: if you have the electric telescoping steering column, when the column extends the harness disconnects from the clock spring. Tell your dealer to run the TSB for the clock spring, they'll find it, and it requires the replacement of the clock spring, wire harness, and the plastic cover between the column and the dash that goes up and down with the steering wheel.

Took 5 trips to the dealer for them to fix mine correctly, if I hadn't been a member here and found the TSB they might still be working on it..

as for the odor, maybe a valet with bad BO, like that Seinfeld episode, or perhaps a tech with bad BO? I once had a buddy (yes once had, no longer) that thought it would be funny to put a Subway Tuna melt under the Seat of my 1996 Chevy Z71, he wedged it between the seat and console, must've been there for 3 weeks before I found it... talk about barf!!!!!!!!

I got even by having 35 of his co workers silly string him at a company breakfast meeting...

Check to see if you hit an animal... I once hit a squirrel that about 2-3 weeks later was stinking up my old SUV...

there are well over 100 possible causes for airbag warning lamp illumination. without a DTC, we'd be just guessing.

I just checked the invoice & it does mention that the clock spring was changed both times. When the light is on, does it mean the airbag is not working? Is this serious, or can we live with this light on?

We checked the car out thouroughly & didn't find any dead animals or food under the seats. Could it be the vents?

if airbag warning lamp (in cluster) is on, the airbag will not deploy. get this fixed ASAP.

The smell showed up a few days after it was at the shop. (My kids are pretty grown up now, 11-22yrs old and haven't been in that car yet.)

We did smell the carpets looking for where the smell is coming from & it seems ok, but it does smell like old milk.

I'm thinking it's coming from the vents when the heat is on.

if you put your hand waaaaayyy up under the drivers seat there is a slit in the carpet ... if you're brave enough put your hand in there ... you might find the cause of the smell. Just dont ask how I know this.

Sounds like a tech had lunch in your car, and now you're crying over his spilled milk!

Could the cabin air filter (accessed from the engine bay) be contaminated? ... just a thought...

As to the slit in the carpet -- move the seat way forward first -- you may not have to get your hands so dirty that way.

Puke smell - found problem... cleaned up problem. Next day puke smell is stronger like someone added to it-dig around find slit in carpet...put hand in and pulled out somthing that belonged in a sewer treatment plant and not under the carpet of my seat.

If something spilled or rolled up under that part of the carpet it will be trapped between the carpet and the floorboard.
