after downloading and watching as many episodes as i could (took me a few months to watch), i believe all of seasons 1-7 of top gear (his BBC show), i feel that he has a way of making very good cars out to be poop. he is used to the creme de la creme of the automotive world, and doesnt have to consider real world usage for his personal life. he is quick with his wit, but unrelentless with his harsh reviews... many, many people are more than content with what he finds to be garbage.

As my old writing teacher used to say to us in class....GET TO THE POINT. His opinion, hidden in his english rambling, could (and should) have been stated in less than one paragraph.

I contacte the rag he writes for and wrote Jeremy Clarkson should review appliances because his car reviews are really sub-par to say the least etc...
His reviews aren't even worth getting worked up over.
    He is a twit.

In full agreement chaps...Clarkson is a very rich but eccentric media presenter, journalist and author who thrives on being ultra contraversial in his views. Whilst being witty, articulate and entertaining (perhaps?) he nevertheless does not represent the views of the average Brit motorist...indeed if you were to take stock of everything he uttered you would need his bank balance to buy any car worthy of his recommendation.

I love Top Gear, but I can't afford to buy the spare tire of any thing he likes.
I still like the show for the cars and gags.

This review coming from a guy who bought a Ford GT and returned it to the dealer because the alarm malfunctioned. Yep.. read about it here:
    (from Answers.com)
Jeremy Clarkson was one of the first 28 GT owners in the UK. However, as documented on Top Gear, his GT was delivered late, and had ongoing problems with its (aftermarket[citation needed]) anti-theft alarm. According to Clarkson, the alarm would activate while he was in the car, and sometimes activating every 15 or so minutes for an extended period of time, this led him to return it to Ford in June 2005.

You have to remember that in the UK it is a national sporting event to US bash. (Happens here in Canada during any federal election.) And the German connection may not help things either.

Politics and media showboating aside, I'm not surprised when a car designed for freeways and interstates doesn't feel as good on a twisty English backroad as a VW GTI. When I'm out on the high prairie with the cruise set for the next 4 hours, the only thing I miss about my VW is the mileage.

Of course it's a piece of crap, it's a car a lot of people like so Jeremy Clarkson has to hate it.

Likewise, Jeremey Clarkson likes some of the most pitiful and ugly cars in the world.

I think he's just a badge whore though - look at the video where he compares the 300c with the Monaro/S Type, and he *gasp* seems to really like the car, granted it handles like crap on a beach, but he really seems to like it lol.

I think he forces himself to hate it. XD Personally, I don't care, most Europeans don't know how to design cars - the proof's in the pudding, most VWs, BMWS, and even mercedes are boring ugly cars.

Yea, I could have told you he'd hate it without reading the review. He's full of himself, takes forever to make his point, and is spoiled by all the cars about .001% of the human race can afford. But he's good at it. Do you really think he would like an American car (I don't think I've seen him like one yet)? Compared to what he's used to, sure it's crap, compared to a good majority of American "luxury" cars though and it's pretty good. You can't compare an American mass assembly line manufactured car to the hand made cars of the EU.
Though, I do wish the ride and interior matched the craftmanship of the outside/body/look of the car.

Actually he does like one american car, the Ford GT and it's never seen a day out of the shop... I guess our cars are too "reliable" for him?

One other American car he rips on, but has a hard time doing it is the new Zo6. It ran an amazing time on their track so he had no choice but to blab on about how horrible it would be to own one as a daily driver. if it had been a European car with that kind of performace for that price tag he would have loved it. I do love the show because they aren't affriad to say what they really think. Their bias towards American cars does get old though.
